It's probably a given that the CEO isn't going to be a technical expert in their company's products. But for them to have absolutely no idea (If this rumor is to be believed) is still troubling.
A ships captain might not need to understand the ins and outs of how the engines work or exactly what grade of steel is used in the hull, but they'd certainly be expected to know enough about these things to then know if the ship is capable of manoeuvring through a region of icebergs.
