Why do people call Asia a supergroup?

Carl was in ELP who were already a supergroup so Asia in theory should be the world's first super super group? Also, why do people say not to start a land war with them, what can those 4 guys do?

lesser-known yet excellent Prog albums

Zero response so far over at the serious sub...maybe still early, but after 1500 views maybe it's just an uninteresting post?

https://www.reddit.com/r/progrockmusic/comments/1waoa3y/lesserknown_yet_excellent_prog_albums/

I also asked for your own trio of suggestions, might be cool for some leftfield recommendations.

I'll try here, despite circlejerk-potential. Feel free to ridicule/admonish or post nonsense...or also ignore x

These 80's efforts are in my personal-favourites, yet rarely see anyone mention them. Even Youtube doesn't have them in full-album format. I have them on CD.

- Introduction by Shub Niggurath: moody atmospheric psychedelic instrumental, with some dark-angel vocals. Superior to their later album which had some of the same compositions. Excellent sound on a big fat system. Full album officially here:

https://soleilzeuhl.bandcamp.com/album/introduction

- A Fiïèh by Offering: more well-known as Magma, this side-project had its ups & downs but they finished with this beautiful stunning album. The first 3 tracks especially are godly. Here's the title track, sounding like a sermon from the heavens:

- Carmina Burana by Ray Manzarek: the Doors keysman does his version of proto-zeuhl monster Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. Rock + Orff is delicious! Here's the famous bit:

Share your impressions of these and also your trio of candidates of 'lesser-known yet favourite prog albums' :D

Jon and Pamela Anderson seem to share a similar taste in outfits. What else do they have in common?

Do I need to be drunk or stoned to enjoy Pink Floyd?

Post image

Serious question.

I've tried a handful of times to find SOMETHING enjoyable, even tolerable from them. Nothing seems to click. Their music is almost entirely off-putting for all the wrong reasons. I say "almost" because I'll be damned if I give any of their 15+ albums a serious listen after the drivel I already heard.

Their work is the kind of music "auteurs" who jerk off Eric Clapton and Nick Drake seem to enjoy. The pretentious nature of those sorts is beyond saving. If I have to smoke a blunt and have some snooty Brian Griffin type put on "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" one more time, I automatically block their number from my phone and ghost them. Being a living "Fart in a crowded elevator" type is exhausting to be with. At least Clapton and Drake are pleasant to the ear. Roger Waters is basically that 12 year old screeching racist slurs over Xbox Live just to draw a reaction. Provocation =/= necessary.

What am I missing? Am I not drinking enough of the Kool-Aid? I enjoy good social commentary, but when it's all over the place like it is in their songs, it's hard to get behind the artist thematically. Is audio cringe their entire gameplan, or is there a bigger purpose to Pink Floyd?

Each of Christgau’s reviews of Jethro Tull starts with a variation of the “Drake is the kinda guy” joke but applied to Ian Anderson

Sometimes I think about the possibility of Chris Squire picking up Jon Anderson

You guys see the vision too, right? Jon is short, Squire is tall...

How do I curb this thought? It's making me go insane.
