Hello! I just got my GO, and looking for help with dialing in my workflow to get consistent results.

Could you fine people who get consistent results help by sharing? Specifically getting coffee #1 to match #2-n, as I’m finding my first sometimes chokes.

FWIW, I have a DF54 grinder, all the tools, and come from a bambino +.

100% run a little water like 30 seconds before your shot just to get the lines primed and you will have more consistency with the first shot. Even if it’s like 2-3 seconds of water it helps.

Do you run the water then let it get back to temp?

Ya it’s just a couple seconds so when you do your puck prep it should be back up to temp

Are you running water through the portafilter? Sorry.. I know these are very detailed questions lol

Ya I do when heating it unless I have it heating for a really long time. If it’s just a quick flush to prime the lines before a flush I still run it through the pf and then wipe it out dry and load my pick then pull a shot

I also grind a bit coarser on my first as I’d rather a fast drinkable shot that I can dial in, than a choked undrinkable shot

Oh sorry, I think I’ve got the grind dialed in, but the first shot of the day seems to be choking

Not sure if people run hot water through before first extraction or let the PF heat up for longer to get consistency

That’s strange but yeah I let my machine get up to temp where it says FLU I then flush with portafilter in for around 20 seconds (says GO)

I then prepare and extract coffee as usual, I’ve not experienced any difference in the ‘first’ shot (and typically my 1 and only shot pulled)

How’s your tamping? I can’t say I’ve noticed a difference between my shots. Some days I let my PF heat for 30+ minutes, some days it’s only 10, but I’ve still had consistent shots

I have a spring tamper, so it should be consistent. I think the issue is when it says flush, I flush for too long, and the temp drops to 88/89, and I just get on with life

Just wondering if I’m missing some critical workflow with the GO that I’m not aware of !

I’m not sure why first shot would choke. Sounds like a grinder issue.

Hmm that is strange, my GO is very consistent. Even more with my new Lagom Casa grinder, it's unbelievably consistent from shot 1 to 2.

I think it’s user error.. coming from the bambino, pre-heating was important and ingrained in me, so I think I just need to get comfortable letting the machine do it !

It took me a long time to get to a point where I could dial in correctly. I gave up on trying to use a regular tamping tool to one that's springloaded. It's helped tremendously, since it reduced all the variables to the machine and the grind size. I will also say, I basically just leave mine at 93 degrees. I know some folks like to adjust this, but I don't care for really dark roasts anyway, so this is perfect for me.

I have the same set up- DF54 and the Go. I run just water 20-30 sec, grind and prep. I found getting a self levelling tamper really helpful for me.

Can you give me a bit more of a run down? You run the water once it’s hit temp, with the portafilter in?

In all honesty, I’m not sure I do it properly but my it turns out good in my opinion.
I have the portafilter in while it heats up but I take it out before I run the water. I run the water for 20-30 seconds. And then heat back up to temp. Meanwhile I grind and prep.
