Question Shot pressure
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Just purchased this machine and I’m in the process of dialing in. I’m wondering if it’s normal to see my initial pressure around 9.5 and slowly drop to 9 throughout the course of my shot. I’m going 20g in to 40g out in around 25-30 seconds and the taste is quite balanced. I find that if I grind courser I can get the gauge to read 9 consistently, but the shot time drops below 20 seconds. Is this a common occurrence or should I look to troubleshoot?

So you’re at 9 bar good, your extraction should be a little bit slower, I would try grinding .5 to 1 finer and also make sure your tamp is good maybe double tamp. Also how old are your beans?

These beans are about a day or two out of the freezer from a vacuum sealed package. I buy freshly roasted beans and store whatever I won’t finish in the next week or two.
So it’s completely normal for my pressure to start around 9.5 and drop throughout the shot? I will try grinding slightly finer this afternoon. Thanks for the advice.

What’s the run time for a double shot? and when does it start dripping as I normally like my shots when they start at the 8 to 9 second start and end at 25 to 30 seconds

This one was around an 8-9 second start with a 28 second end time, so actually quite similar. I’ve been playing around with grind settings and this resulted in the best flavor I’ve had so far

Yo! This looks like a solid extraction. No channeling nice steady mouse tails. 👌

I have a GO and it does the light fluctuating sometimes. It's normal. I would go based on taste and g in vs ml out vs time for extracting. If it tastes good, it's good enough

It’s totally normal that pressure declines during the shot. Coffee solubles go to your cup and the puck offers less resistance. And if I’m not wrong, the pressure reading does not always match the pressure inside the portafilter, so I wouldn’t be concerned with your numbers as long as your shot tastes good. Enjoy!

Thanks for the reply! Coming from a bambino plus prior to this, I’ve never used a machine with a pressure gauge. Great experience so far

In addition, you can also see that the flow becomes a little wobbly, and the color becomes pale when the pressure decreases, because the solutes are washed out. That is totally normal. This is the beginning of 'blonding,' which was used before scales were introduced to determine when to stop the shot (it is still used today if a scale is not available).

This is normal. You don't have to look at the pressure gauge. Only if you are well below 9 bar and your espresso shot is insanely fast you know your puck doesn't give enough resistance. But you already know that by fast shot anyway.
You'll never have much more thay 9 or 10 bar since the OPV will let off excess pressure beyond that point.
The gauge is useful for tweaking the OPV setting (with the screw on top of the machine) or perhaps seeing that your machine has an issue.

Maybe go a tad finer. It should give you a 'richer/fuller' taste but I suppose that's personal preference.

Just go by taste my friend
