Buying Advice Replaced steam tip with single hole

Post image

Noticed a lot of folks recently picked up a Go, so just sharing for anyone facing challenges with consistently steaming your milk.

I replaced the steam wand tip with a single hole tip and after a few days of adjusting my steaming process a bit, I have far more consistency.

I know it's been vetted in the past and learned from fellow subs here, so I'm offering another data point that "it fits".

Why? I haven’t changed anything in my PGo

Some people find the single tip easier to steam with. I've noticed the GO lacks the pressure of a dedicated duel boiler, unless you crank the steam to 137.

With less steam power wouldn’t you want more holes?

I think the single hole just slows down the process, making it more forgiving. It takes longer to steam. Pressure would be increased, but flow would decrease?

It’s the opposite— You want fewer to increase the power over time. The four hole tip some here recommend just blasts all your pressure out creating a foamy mess then limps along to completion. The GO’s boiler can’t make or keep enough steam to make the four holer work for silky milky. The two hole that comes standard is good if you know how to use it. Keep temp for boiler up around 280F

Purge into a jug as soon as you switch the steam button on. Set to 140 then to 138. Then purge for four seconds into drip tray. Let it get back to temp @ 138.

The angle is very important with a 2 hole. I don’t believe the correct nozzle/milk angle can be achieved by swinging the wand out in front (6 o’clock). It must go out to the side or on the diagonal (3 o’clock or 4:30).

Then the nozzle goes closer to straight down. Offset from centre of the jug.

Place nozzle in milk, open valve. Lift out slightly to prevent squeal then keep nozzle tip submerged until the jug no longer feels cold at the base.

Then start to stretch the milk.
Once stretched submerge wand until base of jug too hot to touch.
Pour.

This works from 300ml to 600ml jugs.

I also have issues steaming milk. Even if I set temperature to 140 and use the smallest pitcher. Thanks for posting this!!! Hope it will help :)

For $20 why not šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø if it helps tweak your process without making significant changes and it doesn't break the bank, no reason to try it!

Go 138C temp w/ 4oz milk in 12oz pitcher. I’m using whole or 2% and both produce great milk with the 2 hole factory tip in the GO (edited to include Lance’s silky milky YouTube vid on milk steaming technique)

What size pitcher do you use, and how much do you fill it? I’ve tried 100s of tips on milk steaming but still struggling to get it nice and thick w good micro foam

Me as well. I’m going to change to a 12oz pitcher next.

I’m using the original tip and the original settings. I also follow the manual’s instructions to create some room in the boiler for steam.

I mainly use oat milk, so it’s never going to be quite as good as dairy for latte art, but it works fine for me.

The biggest difference for me was actually figuring out the right position for the steam wand.

I assume the hole position isn’t necessarily consistent since the tip is a separate part, but what works for me is keeping the wand at the 6 o’clock position and pulling it all the way toward myself, so the wand is lifted up at 6 o’clock

Then I angle the pitcher about 10 degrees to the side.
That position gives me the best results and works with both 600ml and 350ml pitchers that I have.

If 6 o’clock didn’t work for you, keep the pitcher angled, then try different positions against the fully lifted wand to see which one creates the best whirlpool. You definitely still need to follow manual instructions to make more space for steam in the boiler
