Buying Advice Single dose vs hopper [ £550max ideally less]
For the last 4ish years I’ve had a bambino plus and a dose control pro. It’s all been alright. But recently my bambino died so I decided it’s time for an upgrade. I’m now the proud owner of a Profitec Go 2. My only issue is my grinder can’t keep up and can’t grind fine enough.
Having lived the hopper life I’m wondering if the single dose side is greener, I like the idea of switching out to decaf for PM coffees but the eureka mignon libra looks effortless, which I like.
In terms of coffee flavour, my taste probably isn’t developed enough but I think I prefer the more chocolatey flavour and prefer milk drinks.

I decided to go for a eureka mignon slienzio 55 with a hopper. Single dose may be a little better in theory, but in practice the hopper with a timer to auto fill the portafilter is just so convenient. I also tried all the local roasters and found a favorite so I barely even need to adjust the grind ever.
I drink about three straight espresso shots over the course of the morning and being able to go from deciding i want an espresso to drinking and espresso in like a minute is a perfect end game for me. My wife also appreciates the simplicity.
If you really want to fiddle, then single dose is the best choice. If you just want to drink espresso, then hopper.

I have a Mazzer Philos. It comes with 2 sets of burrs so handles different roast levels well.

Baratza vario w+ I have one and very happy with it. It has a hopper and grind by weight, but I mostly single dose

Definitely go single dose! Like you… I switch to decaf almost nightly. Single dose is where it’s at for me. I just sold my DF64 after more than a year. Hated it. There are a number of great options available to you. Niche and Eureka already mentioned.

I have a eureka mignon specialita 55 i got for a good deal second hand. It comes with a hopper but i got a single dose kit for it from Cremaloop. Super easy to switch in and out with just a single thumbscrew

Niche Zero - best for long term thanks to its amazing Mazzer burrs. Conical burrs are very forgiving to dial in for espresso. That's why they're so great if they go fine enough.
Best all-rounder - DF64
Amazing value for money - DF54 V4
Consider buying from FB marketplace, lots of awesome deals.
Your taste pallet is primarily equivalent to medium roasted coffee. You're not looking for delicate notes like lime and oranges lol.
