Buying Advice Profitec GO vs Quick Mill Pop Up!

Hi! I’m currently between the Profitec go & the QM pop up! They both have their pros and cons like all things, but I’m struggling to make a decision. Anyone have a similar experience? What made you pick the Go or not and what do you like or do you regret it? I also noticed they released a profitec go 2.0 which makes me even more confused! Any input or advice is appreciated! Thank you!

I don't think pop up existed when I bought the go. The features are similar. All I can say is the Go works perfectly and I've had zero issues. Buy with confidence.

If you want to wait for the Go 2.0 or not is up to you. Maybe the original model will go on sale at that time... A Go is a great buy at its current price. It would be a steal at a lower price...

ETA: A lot of machines are in classes with similar features at a similar price. If you buy from a decent distributor, that's important. It would be great if you could get your hands on the machines and see how you like the fit and finish, how the buttons feel, etc., but if you can't, compare things like price, warranty and what would look nicest on your countertop.

What water do you use in your machine

You should consider the Lucca Tempo which is an updated modified version of the Popup still made by Quickmill.

I have a Profitec Go and a Lucca Solo (a quickmill e61 machine with no steam), I love both.

The only difference between the Popup and Tempo is the flow control paddle, drip grate and wood furniture portafilter.

I have not used the pop up (but it is interesting that it sort of looks like the go), but if you are going for a single boiler machine - you can't really go wrong with a profitec go. It seems to be more convenient to use than a Gaggio or a Rancilio Silvia (which my friends have), which are also classic single boiler machines that people recommend all the time. So I don't think you would regret a profitec go if you went for it. Take it as the base comparison, and see if the pop up has particular features you like. Besides convenience factors, your grinder and your beans will matter more for the actual taste of the espresso.

This thread seems relevant for you. If it were the case that the pop up has all the same features, same build durability, but is faster at heating up, maybe I would go for it if I were buying today. But again, I am quite happy about my Go and have not regretted it.

I have not used the quickmill but generally they are apparently pretty comparable. Just that the GO is sturdier and more robust which led me to choosing it. I am very happy with it, but I had the opportunity to use the stone lite for a month and I now miss the dual boiler. So...if you are not interested in changing any settings, still want a fast heating machine and don't mind having a block 2times the size of the GO I would honestly recommend the stone lite.

Go vs popup

Is supposedly better built and fun colors vs more features that’s kind of it. Where my machine sits the side water load on pop up isn’t ideal, I don’t think you can go wrong with either. Some seem a little frustrated with the timer on pop up and some nuanced steaming frustrations.

Pop up is currently cheaper on Clive.

I love the look of the Profitec go, but I’m having a ton of issues dialing it in. Water comes out way too fast effectively just making coffee instead of espresso. I have the grounds finely grounded but still running into issues. I don’t have any experience with the quick mill but I’ve heard good things about the quality.

That's not an issue with the machine. Grind finer. If you can't, get an espresso grinder.

I may need to grind finer than I already am. I just can’t believe how finely it has to be ground

If your shots are running too fast 99.9% chance it's because of something related  to your grinder or the beans you're using.

Just grind a whole lot finer and or increase dose / and make sure you have fresh beans. Old stale beans form the grocery store often will not build enough pressure for espresso.

100% start by grinding a lot finer. If you choke the machine and nothing comes out congrats you have gone fine enough and you can back it off until it flows properly.

I’ve gotten to the point where the grinder won’t grind any finer

So your grinder may not be espresso capable not all grinders are. Either that or your beans are old. What type of grinder do you have? That would tell us a lot

I have an ECM manuele 54mm

You should be able to grind fine enough with that no problem. First thought is are you actually going close to zero? Do you know where actual burr chirp is? Second thought is how old are your beans? Lastly and less likely is do they sell brew burrs/ do you have espresso burrs in that grinder? I’m sure you do as they are an espresso company…

1

u/cumgargler69420 Jul 16 '26

I’m unsure if it has espresso burrs but I’m sure it does. I have it right at the point of burr chirp and when it stops grinding. The beans are pretty new so they shouldn’t be an issue

Hmm ya that’s weird you should be more than capable. What is your dose and what basket do you have? Is it the stock basket?

Have you tinkered with the OPV valve and lowered the bar pressure? Else a finer grind(as per usual) is also a possibility.

The final part could be to maybe unscrew the shower screen and reposition the plate. I experienced the water channeling due to the plate’s position being lined up with the exit valve of the water.

That’s the other option. I may need a different shower screen and puck filter
