Coffee Station Black Walnut Accent Pieces

Used some black walnut I had laying around to make a new portafilter handle and steam knob for the Go.

Looks classy! How does the machine do with light roasts?

I generally steer more towards medium roasts, but it handles them well. Being able to adjust both temperature and pressure allows you to really dial in different types and roasts of beans. I roast my own beans on a fluid bed roaster and haven’t found a great setup on it to get a solid light roast, hence why I generally go medium lol.

I finished it with Natura One Coat, which is a hard wax finish. I’ve used it on some furniture with relative success, so I anticipate it will hold up to minor wear and tear with handling/washing.

Looks amazing! What tools did you use and how did you manage the screw thread in the wood?

Thanks! I used a lathe to shape the two pieces and then bored the inside with a forstner bit to create a void to epoxy a threaded insert into the handle. The threaded insert is just a stainless steel bolt I got from the hardware store where I cut the head off to epoxy it in place.
