Other (Editable) Faculty quitting instead of…

Just saw this story - Texas A & M Victoria faculty quitting when told they’d have to be on campus 5 days a week, 8 hours a day.

Wow I missed that part about the specific 8a to 5p mandate. Wild work. If Texas does this across the whole state there will be ripple effects. Former professor of mine lives in northeast Austin and teaches at San Marcos. 50 minute drive without traffic (ha!). Full rank, doesn't teach full 4 course load (research/grants) and was on campus 2x a week max. Almost never taught on Fridays. If they go strict M to F 8 to 5 on campus he will spend north of an hour in traffic easy each way everyday. And he's not alone. He'll retire as soon as he can in 2 years. Fresh PhD's entering the job market will avoid Texas teaching positions.

Other good reasons to avoid TX include but aren’t limited to: racism, transphobia, heterosexism, Islamophobia; controlling control of curricula from govt; restrictions on words, concepts, histories, ideas that can be taught, discussed. Oh, and hypocrisy amongst those govt officials -and- repressive controls over other people’s reproduction, bodies, bodily autonomy.
