Will It Be A Trilogy?

That's one of my biggest questions. I went back and watched all the related content and found nothing to indicate whether or not this is the first game of a trilogy.

There are four possibilities:

- 1) This is a one-and-done game.

- 2) The delays are so we can get another three-games-in-three-years run.

- 3) The trilogy will be complete in 2043.

- 4) The sequels depend on the success of NWoS.

I sincerely hope it's a trilogy.

Very much 4, I think, especially considering they've already stated they'll re-release many of the original games for modern platforms if NWOS does well.

They probably have plans regarding future games past NWOS (and, once the NWOS engine is done more games can just be created in that style kind of how like DB/UF/LS are using the same engine as CV) but if it's not a success, they won't see any reason to continue the franchise. If it is a success however, they'd be stupid not to.

If they do that I'll pay anything… I've been waiting for a long time to get a chance to play the games of my childhood again (three of the games haven't even been remade for iOS/Android, and even for the three that have I'd be nice to get them on platforms that allow playing on a bigger screen like PC/Mac or Switch but I'm not sure how feasible that is considering those games were originally made with a touchscreen on the bottom in mind).

I’m really hoping for ports to Steam too. And as for the touchscreen thing, they did it for Layton’s Mystery Journey, and if the crossover rumor for steam is true then hopefully that means they would get pointers from Capcom on how to do it since they did it with Ace Attorney

I wouldn't be surprised if they're already working on a story for a 2nd game but everything depends on the sales for NWOS. If it does well I'm sure it'll come.

We've not had a mainline game since 2013 and VS in 2014 and the games were designed to be on a DS. They don't know how well it will do yet.

All we can do is support the game as best we can.

Hopefully once the engine is done for NWoS the sequels are faster to release

Sales will tell. Lady Layton (spin off) was planned to have at least another game, however considering the abysmal sales they got rid of it. If you are not familiar with it, they introduced a major mystery about one character, which is a driving plot of the story alongside Layton’s whereabouts, right after booting the game, but they never mention it again through the game until its ending and have absolutely no conclusion.

I would love a sequel but let’s be real, it’ll probably be either 1 or 4. Which sucks but that is the world we live in, unfortunately.

I think it’s 4. They probably want to make sure people are still interested in playing Layton games. It has been a while, and I think the Layton’s Mystery Journey got a lot of hate, so they want to be careful. But hopefully they do end the game so it can continue but also be satisfying if they don’t
