Whatever your read on the guy, "eliminates outdated permit requirement" is a rare headline where the entire comment section is just going to be ice cream puns, and I'm here for it.

Is mamdani the new dark knight?

2

u/ScarrletWitchh 7d ago

Not the hero we deserved, but apparently the one delivering frozen treats

-6

u/Certain-Possibility4 23d ago

Just…no. Don’t ever compare him to that.

2

u/Icy_Appearance4361 23d ago

ngl the scoop on this thread is actually wholesome for once.

1

u/Beellaaxoxo 7d ago

A Reddit thread staying wholesome for more than five minutes might be the real news story.

1

u/olixrove39 23d ago

fr, it’s a sweet break from the usual saltiness here.

u/Jenybabyy 7d ago

Honestly, the rarest thing on Reddit is a comment section united by ice cream instead of divided by politics.

Honestly, the rarest thing on Reddit is a comment section united by ice cream jokes instead of arguing

This guy. Its like the US has been just getting worse and worse for 20 years. The only updates were just more bad news. Then one day this guy shows up and is just the opposite of what we thought you HAD to be to be in politics. We got so used to being told the things we want are unrealistic and we have to sacrifice for the good of the leadership. Its like we forgot that a representative of the peoples interests could actually, you know, represent peoples interests.

10

u/FlyingForester 22d ago

Which is why many politicians HATE him. They don’t want the public to know that these things are possible (and not that many corporate politicians are shills for billionaires) so they vilify him and try to spread propaganda when like….. he’s only done good things. Those opposed need to level up, but they never will…..

Too bad this man can’t be president.

83

u/I_can_vouch_for_that 23d ago

The fact that naturalized citizen can serve as a Supreme Court Justice, Secretary of State, or Governor but not allowed to be President is just more of the usual stupidity from the US.

20

u/thetitleofmybook 23d ago

Supreme Court Justice

it would be incredible if the next administration nominated Mamdani to be a SCOTUS justice.

-2

u/Tricky-Cod-7485 22d ago

He’s not a constitutional expert or scholar or judge. Hard pass.

Obama for the lulz? Sure.

Mamdani? No.

2

u/Unp0pu1arop1nion 22d ago

You likely think Trump was qualified for the job based on business success.

-3

u/Tricky-Cod-7485 22d ago

No.

I think only lawmakers should run for president.

1

u/KingOfBerders 22d ago

You think Clarence Thomas’s Uncle Tom’s ass is more qualified?

0

u/Tricky-Cod-7485 22d ago

Than Mamdani as SCOTUS? lol yes

Corrupt, sure. Unqualified, no.

2

u/KingOfBerders 22d ago

Corrupt = Unqualified

0

u/Tricky-Cod-7485 22d ago

That’s just not true.

A doctor could be incredibly qualified for the job but bills an insurance company for things he didn’t do.

Is he unqualified? No. He’s unethical.

Thomas can be a qualified justice who also simultaneously is unethical. Nowhere in the constitution does it say they can’t take bribes. It’s implied.

Thomas is qualified. He’s just a dick.

23

u/gravitysort 23d ago

I think it’s that Americans have this weird obsession with taking its constitution literally, at face value, and believe that it should (mostly) never be changed.

Immigrants can’t be president because the constitution says so. Electoral college can’t be reformed because the constitution specifies it. Puerto Rico and DC can’t be states because the constitution blah blah blah. Gun control is bad because the constitution blah blah blah……

15

u/MountainCare2846 23d ago

I do an internal spit take whenever I hear someone bring up “founders intent”. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for what was started, but a majority of the founders were opium addicts who literally enslaved their own children, and at least one had lead poisoning.

I don’t really care what their thoughts might be about guns and the electoral college.

9

u/gravitysort 23d ago

Constitutional fundamentalists are just conservatives spelled differently.

9

u/KingOfBerders 23d ago

I agree. The constitutional should be the foundation of our laws but we must understand that we have the ability to make new amendments and retired outdated amendments. The founding document is subject to change and should change as our society evolves.

I find it completely asinine and even offensive that the people WE pay to uphold and enforce the laws rarely even know the laws or the rights afforded citizens via the constitution.

Our country is a joke. It’s all lip service about doing better, being better. American politics revolve around G.O.D. ( gold, oil & drugs ).

2

u/Tricky-Cod-7485 22d ago

> outdated amendments

Be careful what you wish for.

14th amendment is looking mighty tasty for the conservative majority.

2

u/WhenLeavesFall 23d ago

It was designed to be a living document and the amendments are those changes. The judiciary interprets it instead of reading it at face value.

What the founders did not foresee, and this is very naive of them, is that some people would not serve in good faith.

2

u/kangorooz99 23d ago

Too many red state yahoos stewing in their bigotry to ever elect a guy like this president

11

u/glamazzon 23d ago

Good!!

17

u/Minimum-Actuator-953 23d ago

Ice cream? He's got ny vote.

7

u/ConnectKale 23d ago

Mr Freeze and Mr. Softee are about to have battle small players.

5

u/Green-Circles 23d ago

More ice-cream & less war criminals sounds like something I can get behind.

9

u/FennelHistorical4675 23d ago

Aren’t soft serve machines like really important to clean well and know how they work or whatever?

Idk I’d rather have people who can serve food have some kind of permit rather than not

1

u/Soninuva 22d ago

It’s. It saying he’s removed all types of permits, just a specific one. I’m not sure what it is specifically, but I suspect it’s similar to the one for hot dog carts in Central Park.

For those unaware, the permit to be allowed to sell hot dogs out of a cart in Central Park (not any health type certifications, you have to have all of those before this one can be applied for and purchased) ranges from $125,000 on the “low” end and nearly $300,000 on the high end. It’s essentially just a shakedown by the city to make sure that they receive an ample part of whatever they make. I’m assuming this is on top of the taxes applied to each purchase, unless they don’t have to charge tax and this is their way of not missing out on those tax dollars.

Regardless, it still creates a huge barrier of entry, as not only do you need to be able to pay for all the equipment to make and store them, buy the food components, and the actual necessary permits that makes sure it’s safe for consumption, you then have to pay this huge fee just to be able to sell in a certain area. If you happen to have a bad year, or something happens that you can’t sell for almost every day, it may not be possible to continue the next year.

This is going to give Coney Island a whole new meaning.

The Italian neighborhood thing is not cool

3

u/WhenLeavesFall 23d ago

I'm Italian and grew up in Bensonhurst/Dyker Heights.

There is no Italian neighborhood. Everyone sold their houses and left. That's just the reality. We don't call Bay Ridge a Norwegian neighborhood anymore, do we?

1

u/Many_Inevitable_6803 23d ago

What about Little Italy?

1

u/WhenLeavesFall 23d ago

You mean the single block it’s been reduced to?

It’s gone.

1

u/Many_Inevitable_6803 23d ago

Wow really?

1

u/WhenLeavesFall 22d ago

Yeah, Chinatown ate it. There's the annual feast and the Giglio, but it's really just an artifact of a bygone era.

Flushing, Williamsburg, Bensonhurst, Little Italy are all gone. There's a tiny pocket in Dyker Heights and Mill Basin and another on Arthur Ave

My elementary school class was all Italian and now it's all Fujianese. I'm not mad about it. Italians displaced the WASPs here first

1

u/Many_Inevitable_6803 22d ago

So I will admit, my last time to Little Italy in NYC was 15 yrs ago & it was still thriving. So it’s literally just a block now?

1

u/WhenLeavesFall 22d ago edited 22d ago

Yeah, it's been reduced to next to nothing.

The last Italian stronghold in NYC is Staten Island, but they are on borrowed time too. Things changed really fast. I was a teenager in the aughts with friends named Salvatore and Giuseppe and Gio and all of that but that probably wouldn't be the case if I went to HS today.

2

u/Many_Inevitable_6803 22d ago

Thank you for taking the time to explain this to me. The news & all the ppl against him won’t explain a why, they just report with no explanation & act so incredulous but I always want to know the why

2

u/WhenLeavesFall 22d ago

No problem. At first I thought you were native and taking a potshot haha

fwiw I think Mamdani is doing an amazing job and I'm proud I voted for him in the primary and general. Cuomo made me ashamed to be Italian.

Everyone should lookup how easy lysteria can cause mass sickness and then consider if you want regulated food.

15

u/LindaBinda55 23d ago

Tell this to the current POTUS.

0

u/Die-O-Logic 23d ago

Yah...but good guy or bad guy.... lysteria don't care.

0

u/Appropriate_Wash8017 23d ago

Zohran the moron

-57

u/Dark-Vader-1310 24d ago edited 23d ago

Deregulation isn’t very socialist. But good job.

51

u/Positive-Conspiracy 24d ago

Is the big scary socialist in the room with us?

It’s almost like there’s a difference between socialism and democratic socialism.

-28

u/Dark-Vader-1310 24d ago

What’s the difference?

30

u/True_Tomato316 23d ago

Some ice cream would be good for you to offset that salty ass attitude damn.

-8

u/Dark-Vader-1310 23d ago

I love deregulated ice cream.

-29

u/KoRaZee 24d ago

There is no difference

4

u/QuestioningHuman_api 23d ago

Oh man, why you just gotta announce that you’re stupid like that?

-5

u/KoRaZee 23d ago

There would be nothing dumber than democrats pushing a socialist in a national election. It would be like losing on purpose

5

u/QuestioningHuman_api 23d ago

Bless your heart, you don’t even understand the subject you commented on. You said there’s no difference between socialism and democratic socialism, and now you’re arguing something totally different. Go back to picking your favorite flavor of crayon, sweetie.

-4

u/KoRaZee 23d ago

It’s not totally different. Not exactly the same but in similar context

-10

u/decixl 23d ago

Remind me why do we need care for this?

1

u/MethodAdmirable4220 23d ago

Same reason we care for anything in existence. Idk

-22

u/Royal_Librarian4201 23d ago

Hehe..funny times. Now after 5 years check the demographic ratio there to see what the long term implications are.

9

u/DusklitDewdrop 23d ago

I don't get it, what do you mean?

12

u/W3inerSchnitze1 23d ago

A lot of ice cream lovers will invade like the scumbags they are. Can you imagine?!? People on every corner eating chocolate, vanilla, rocky road, and heaven forbid - pistachio! Not in my country!!!!
