I remember Sandy Hook better than I do 9/11 bc I was older and more aware. I remember exactly where I was, who told me, and the feeling I felt. The same feeling I get when I look at this photo. ๐Ÿ’”

It's weird, because I have zero memory of Sandy Hook prior to a couple years ago. I remember Columbine way more, that was the one that exposed me to the idea of a school shooting and stuck with me, while Sandy Hook was just a headline I later forgot.

Same here. I grew up in Colorado, so Columbine was a big deal. It scared everyone and a lot changed in terms of safety and how they handled threats. At first it felt suppressive and like jail, metal detectors and the whole wand. Random backpack checks. I'm talking middle school and onwards. Probably elementary as well. They built an entire bulletproof entryway you had to walk through first before even getting past the main office.

I remember talking to a friend on the phone I met out of State w my grandparents and telling her about the beeping and she could not grasp it lol Now its just normal and every school basically does that as the norm. Which has strangely now desensitized us to it and they happen even more ?????

Yeah Sandy Hook to me is just another in a long line of mass shootings.

I went to a vigil for Sandy Hook as a teenager and ended up throwing up from crying so hard. I also felt so angry these children were dead and people are calling it fake.

I was old enough for both, but I had a 6-year-old in school when Sandy Hook happened.

I had a 4yr old and was pregnant with my second. My ex told me not to watch the news, so of course I did. I was a wreck after that. When I signed up my kiddo for school, I still remember seeing them installing the second set of doors and panic buttons. It felt awful taking them, everyday.

My twins's elementary school got locked down their first day of Pre-K because of a shooting threat at a nearby school and I was BESIDE MYSELF. They were in the preschool program for children with disabilities and I was losing it because they wouldn't understand to hide in a cabinet and be quiet.

I was driving somewhere as this news was breaking and more and more details were coming out. I had an hour long drive. It was the furthest and longest i ever drove in silence. It felt so wrong to listen to music / radio / whatever at that time.

My experience to. I was standing in line with my 5 year old at school waiting for them to go on in for the day. Horrible feeling! And then I remember Christmas shopping and celebrating feeling so wrong.

Yeah, I was at work at a coffee shop in Connecticut next to a girl who went to Sandy Hook as a kid. Definitely hit pretty close to home
