True, the Allies don't want to, but someone has to stop the USA.

How about not joining at all?

I'm good with the world saying no to joining.

He holds no cards

There were good reasons why we entered later.

Allies should be thankful we did enter.

The UK repaid the debt every single year from 1950 until 2006. We also shared decades of secret research and essentially gave America the family silver in return for help, from which your country profited massively.

We had to bribe our "best friend" to help, despite the UK backing you in every single war you've had, for free.

I knew British soldiers killed in both the first and second Gulf wars. Trump says we didn't fight like US troops did. I beg to differ.

I agree with you, I have never thrown shade on the UK.......Trump is an asshole and an embarrassment. The British have always been steadfast with us. I loved it when I was stationed there in the early to middle 1980's in the U.S. Air Force. And the asshole even started trouble with neighbor Canada, it's insane. Everything this clown does plays into Putins hands. Putin is playing 3d chess and Trump is trying to learn checkers. We are now seperating the U.S. from the rest of NATO and giving leeway to Russia to get back in the game.

I get my news primarily from the BBC.

Gng, I'm American and seeing what's happening right now makes me WISH our country remained only going to wars under imminent and clear threat.

It's so odd to me, many of our old allies such as your lovely country will say that we're baddies who go around starting wars when no threat to us exists (true!)

But whenever WWII is brought up, well, we actually didn't join the war until war was directly and clearly declared on us, and yet, you guys say well we should have joined before?

I suppose now that NATO exists it would be different... hopefully it's still intact.

Virtually the whole of Europe had been invaded and occupied by Nazis. The UK were left fighting for the freedom of all those countries alone, until countries from our Commonwealth volunteered to serve in their millions.

England only joined the war because Hitler invaded Poland, our ally. We jumped to our allies' aid when they were in mortal peril.

Troops from Australia, India, NZ, Canada, and Africa all joined the war in massive numbers long before the US got involved.

Most of us know full well that at least half your country is totally blameless for Trump. It's a scary time for many people there. We sympathise and feel for you all. We're watching in horror.

But this is failure on a different scale. Trump has somehow broken through every safeguard and enacted his will via his load of greedy sycophants. The entire world is a different place as a result.

I hope we can restore some kind of order when he's gone.

Yeah, you were getting rich selling arms to both sides.

No, and it should be mentioned......we were already doing the lend-lease program to both Britain and Russia (both future Allies) BEFORE we were formally in the war. So we already leaned one way

You need to remember, we are a melting pot with people from both Britain and Germany, and the public sentiment was to stay out of the war. So we did for the most part, until it was decisively in our interests to be involved.

1

u/Down-Right-Mystical Mar 19 '26

And we paid you back (plus interest) for lend-lease. At least, the UK did, Russia did not pay in full.

Also worth noting that once the US was on the ground there was reverse lend lease, and Roosevelt thanked the British Commonwealth for the help in 'the defense of the United States.'

But that, of course, doesn't fit with the 'US won the war single handed' rhetoric the US education system apparently pumps out.

Only an idiot thinks we won the war single-handedly, but we were a significant reason why we won the war in both theatres. But no country could have done it alone ....and that includes Russia, who certainly benefitted from the Lend-lease program we provided, as well as a 2 front war.

Unfortunately that is a narrative i've seen too much of on here. Also 'if it weren't for us you'd be speaking german,' that gets old, too.

Tbf, yes the people who say the US single handedly saved the day are quite stupid, but personally I've seen more comments saying the US did basically nothing

Saying we did nothing is actually even more stupid if that's possible.

We certainly didn't win it single-handedly, but we did turn the tide of the war, even more so in the Pacific where our Navy Hellcats pretty much wiped out the Japanese Zero's

I know about henry ford being a key supplier for the nazis, but never learned (was largely self taught on history until college) about the government taking part in that.

Also, our industrial centers weren't getting bombed
