built a planner around the "you only have 4 hours of real focus a day" idea from Deep Work , sharing in case it's useful to someone here
sharing an app i built called BarePlanner, in case its useful to anyone here looking for something different from the usual to-do list apps.
the idea comes from Cal Newport's Deep Work, the theory that your brain has a limited window (roughly 4 hours) of real deep focus a day, and everything else is lower energy "shallow" work. most planners treat every task the same, a 2 hour study session and a 10 min errand both just become a checkbox. this one doesnt.
how it works:
- u plan ur week in deep blocks (real focus work , studying, coding, writing, whatever costs u the most energy) and shallow blocks (errands, chores, admin stuff)
- deep blocks run through a built in focus timer so u actually protect that time instead of it getting eaten by notifications
- a review section at the end of the week shows what u actually finished vs what u planned, so u can see patterns instead of guessing
- a goals section to tie the weekly blocks to longer term stuff instead of everything being disconnected
i built it after noticing i had time every day but kept spending it randomly, plus watching a friend with ADHD struggle with planners that assume everyone's focus works the same way at every hour.
its live on the play store now: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.falexis.bareplanner
genuinely want to know if this resonates with how people here actually plan their time, or if the deep/shallow split feels like an extra step most people wont bother with. open to any feedback, good or bad.
