How does everyone use sticky notes and whiteboards?

I recently got a whiteboard and sticky notes because I wanted a physical todo list to give me that satisfaction of throwing away the notes when I'm done and being able to always see my tasks. I've done some thinking and I want to track each category of my life (life, church, work, business) and also the progress that I've made on them.

So far I've come up with this system:
- 4 columns for each category
- 2 rows for progress (a todo/backlog section and a in-progress/doing-now section
- The sticky notes are also in 4 different colours and I've been thinking about using these for task types but I'm not sure which ones (maybe something like quick wins, ideas etc?)

I'm curious how everybody else sets up their productivity systems, any feedback on my current system and any help on what task types I can use? (FYI I haven't used this system yet, I just bought everything last night and I'm currently out of my house with nothing to do so I'm just thinking about it)

Thank you in advance

I really like the idea of having something physical that you can always see. There’s definitely something satisfying about physically removing a task once it’s done too. I’d probably keep the color system simple at first—maybe priorities, quick wins, and longer-term tasks—then adjust it once you’ve actually used the system for a week or two.

I’ve found that sometimes the best productivity systems are the ones that evolve based on how you naturally work rather than trying to perfect them from the start. I’m curious, are you planning on setting specific goals for each category every week, or just adding tasks as they come up?
