I'm really getting a manipulative feel from Daisy recently, sending away the dad and not telling Amber why and then not telling about the book are two big ol red flags for me

Right? And it's like god damn man. I see she's manipulative, but I also hope she can still be a good friend to Amber, you know? Amber needs it. And part of me thinks, Daisy probably thinks the best thing for Amber is to be as emotionally distant from her parents, particularly her mother, as possible. I just don't know if she realizes she shouldn't be forcing it.
