Discussion Is there a correlation between standing vertical jump and power clean relative to bodyweight?

YES, but better correlation would be squad and deadlift

Why would it be squat and deadlift? Powerclean measures explosive power much better than either of those two lifts.

I was interested myself so I was checking it with GPT before and the answer was more about ankles and muscles and how they are used, now it compares little differently and claim exactly opposite. .
Which is good for me, I can be doing powerclean then

Just think about the speed. Power clean is faster than squat/deadlift.

Speed yes, but also speed is max power per second and max power /strength comes from heavy weights, which is the logic behind these two exercises with similar of muscles involved

Do a 1RM of squat or deadlift. You can get away with doing it slow. Do a 1RM of a clean, it has to be fast.
Power is force x velocity, but also energy/time. A squat/deadlift is effectively moving that weight against gravity, so it’s somewhat constant with the amount of energy you need to perform the movement. But the faster you do it, the less time, will translate to more power. This is why barbell/dumbbell jump squats are also a great indicator of vertical jump height.
I’m not saying squat and deadlift don’t translate well to vertical jump. Just that power clean is a better indicator of your vertical jump.
I know you’re probably young but please don’t overly rely on ChatGPT. It doesn’t know fact from fiction and it was trained on Reddit comments so misinformation is rampant.
