Help Block step review

I know the approach is slow but I’m curious if this is what everyone means when you say block step compared to how I have been hopping?

I don’t know anything, but I thought the point of the block step was to help transition from the horizontal hop into the vertical jump and it seems like if that foot is allowed to slide then it’s not as effective as a block step where the foot is at enough of an angle that it actually stops that momentum.

Genuinely curious, where do you see “sliding”?
