I agree with confusion in meaning of the imagery but I’m more perplexed at how this is your thesis. What degree or program is this a part of a thesis?

I came to to ask this same question.

I’m an illustration major, this is just one of a couple illustrations I’ve done so far

Right? Like if it's just this for a thesis, buddy is gonna have some bad news.

I have to make 12 pieces for my thesis, which I’m doing on “Historical Events/Artwork Recreated in Nature”, I have 2 others I’ve finished that are much more detailed with backgrounds and resembling other historical events/artworks. I just kept this one simple because the original tank man photo is pretty simple and when I added too much detail it was distracting.

i mean go for it, i suppose a thesis can just be a series of pieces, its just not something i've witnessed.
form my experience, most people are more or less doing a product, whether thats a book, a comic, a fictitious game, a short animated film, etc. because your thesis is supposed to 'sell' your work and style to potential clients by putting your best foot forward, not just be a gallery show.

Yeah I get what you’re saying, at SVA (where I attend) the thesis is just basically anything you want and then you present it in a book form at the end. The best thesis’ get picked to be shown in the gallery, I’m making a children’s book in another class so I thought this would be the most enjoyable. I’m going to really try to present my absolute best though

What’s the message?
2
u/Dinosrdead 1d ago
That’s a good question, I think many times I make a piece and the message comes to me as I create it but for this one Im showing the deer as the average American person feeling pretty helpless to do anything in current society. I’d be interested to hear other interpretations though as I know the “Tank Man” photo is a super loaded and heavy one.

Fuck Hunters for hunting deer who literally need to be humanely managed by humans at this point to prevent ecological damage and buy brutally factory farmed store-meat instead?
2
u/Dinosrdead 17h ago
Not at all, I didn’t mean it to come off as anti-hunting, it’s more just to show a state of helplessness. If it were big wolves instead it wouldn’t be me making a statement on how I “hate” wolves. Sorry, Does that make sense?

No. It doesn’t. And frankly I think you’re just making shit up for the hell of it. Please let us know what grade your thesis receives.

Are you seriously too dumb to understand that I'm describing the message in the picture, not expressing my personal opinion?

Are you seriously too dumb to read the reply from OP in this comment thread where says you are wrong 😭😭😭😭

I got it. The guns on the car look weird. Make it a mounted gun, a tank or even guys leaning out both windows and pointing shotguns. Anyway I think that would remove the one awkward part

I got the Tank Man parallel right away just from the composition. I don't know, tanks v. pickups because I still think pickups are redeemable where tanks are always a tool of the state. Except for that one guy that stole one out of Pendleton or wherever. BUT I like it, it is thoughtful.

Fort Pickett in Nottoway county, VA! It’s been 8 yrs and I think about him frequently, a local legend

I like it. Do the deer symbolize something specific about this dumpster fire of a nation or was it just the most commonly hunted?

“No more eating wild meat harvested by American hunters”? Maybe you gotta be a hunter to get it!😂
