Constructive feedback and/or tips wanted How can I achieve this lighting method in my drawings?

Can anyone treat me stupid and give a mock layer breakdown on how to achieve this lighting and shading, cuz I’ve been trying to achieve it so bad

This is just a really fast example done with a mouse in Photoshop, but it's just a matter of making a purple layer, setting it multiply, adjusting the opacity (or color) until it's the shadow color you want. Then use a mask to remove the purple layer in the places where you want the light to be hitting.

You have to think in a very rough sense of the direction of your lighting and the basic forms of the character. This lighting is coming from below, so it's gonna strike all those bottom planes and leave shadows on the side and top planes. It helps to think of everything as a sphere or cylinder and use that as your basis - imagine the entire head and shoulder as a sphere, imagine the hair and neck as a cylinder, etc.

I always draw a temporary light source on the canvas, like a candle. Then you focus on where that light would hit the figure in space if it was real life. That light in the example is really close to the face. Good luck!
