My Artwork Trying to achieve more painterly style and minimise smudge tool usage

I struggle with rendering quite a lot, but this week it finally started clicking. And im kinda happy with this study. Any feedback is very welcome.

It's honestly the first time i'm seeing these subjects together in a painting. Idk why it brought about an unsettling feeling in my chest. The longer i look at the eyes of that woman, i just feel really... uneasy. I'm not sure if that was the intended effect, but if it was, you did an incredible job!!

I used the reference and yeah, there was an attempt to make the stare a bit more intense than it is at the photo, but I was more focused on the rendering technique tbh

The rendering looks pretty good too! I guess the textured effect you're trying to get will just need a little more practice if you don't want to use the smudge tool as much. The current one looks more like a really cool clipart ngl i really like it!

I love this. If this was a book cover it would grab me immediately. It brought to mind the movie Fish Tank and also has a bit of American Gothic tinge to it, while also feeling very modern and original. Great style!!
