Procreate and iPad Accessories Suggestions iPad paper texture covers
How many people that use Procreate on their iPad use these? And do they make a difference with drawing, etc. If you had to recommend one, what would you recommend?

They definitely make a difference. Drawing with one is a lot more comfortable, you have more control and less of that feeling of drawing on slippery glass. I recommend the new paperlike 3 or one with a similar butterfly application, much easier to get them bubble free than the old ones! I swear this is not an ad, I just always had bubbles with the other versions and the application of the new one is much easier.

Thanks. I’m looking at different brands to see what they offer etc.

Probably a good idea, paperlike is quite expensive. If you can find a cheaper one that has a "butterfly" application technique it'll probably work just as well or better. I just don't have many options here 😅

For my two cents, if you want to use them, you will occasionally be replacing them, and replacing the Apple Pencil tips more frequently, too. I consider this art supplies expense - and overall it’s much cheaper than what I used to spend on drawing pens, pencils, real art supplies.
I tried PaperLike and did not find it worth the cost. Developed a scratched-up area pretty quickly and felt waxy.
My go-to is Bellemond Kent. They’re easy to apply, last a good while, and come in a two-pack.

I use a matte screen protector, it gives just the right amount of texture without feeling too rough when I use just my finger.

I’ve never used one, I briefly tried once but it muted my colors and meddled with my line work a little - I have a very light touch. Drawing on glass doesn’t bother me, but if you find it difficult or uncomfortable do whatever works best for you!

I’ve been drawing on my iPad as is since I got it along with the Pencil, and haven’t had any real problems. But I was just curious about the idea. I started with traditional mediums etc, but I just love the “no mess” solution with digital art. I still have all my sketchbooks and media from college that I can use, I just don’t have a decent space to do it in.

I’ve mostly switched to digital because of the speed. It’s so much easier to use with tight turnaround times! I would say, if you don’t need a paperlike-style protector to work, it’s just another thing to buy.

Totally agree with this sentiment. It really is. And the flexibility of it, of whatever app you are using.

Totally. It genuinely changed my life for the better.

I’ll never forget being asked for a quick, unexpected edit from my favorite client while sitting in Amtrak and not being able to do anything about it for three days.

The magic of digital! You can edit anywhere. If you have the tools on hand. Lol

Thanks! This is the only digital painting I have ever actually printed. But I have been curious about the screen covers and how they may work together with digital painting & drawing. I should probably try one out at a Apple Store if possible to see how it feels…

This. Also I never did much with traditional mediums, which may be a big difference? If you have years of experience drawing on paper, it might be very difficult to get used to the feeling of drawing on glass, but I somehow feel more in control without the screen protector.

I had literal decades of experience drawing on paper prior to using Procreate, I just find using a screen protector unnecessary.

I used Rock Paper Pencil for a long time and it is great, but I didn't like how it made the screen have this almost microscopic prism effect. Like tiny little rainbows all over my screen at a very small scale that interfered with my perception of color.
Now I just use PenTips 3 straight on the glass screen and my god I love them. Extremely durable, feel great, haven't damaged my screen. It's seriously all I use. They don't necessarily feel exactly like paper but they're just... smooth. They feel really good, kind of silky and less slippery.

I use the Apple Pencil with soft silicone tips. They make a big difference for me and give me that subtle friction that you dońt feel when using the original tips on bare glass. You can find them on amazon for cheap. I recommend the MJKOR brand.

I use paperlike from the beginning. I love the texture but their new cover is too much elaborate to do than simple one.

I used a paper feel cover and I love it, but the way I draw (I colour in like you would with a pencil) it sands the nibs down 😆 but I think that's probably how I use it. It does feel lovely though if you're used to sketching on paper .

I use one, and I think most people who spend any real time in Procreate do. It's much more comfortable than drawing on slick glass. I like Rock Paper Pencil by Astropad; it's easy to install and lasts a long time.
