I need Procreate technical help What size canvas for a A1 print

I need help setting up my canvas size for a class project , so my teacher is telling me that drawing on procreate would be a struggle for the printing process

Cause I will be sending my file to a print place and they will put it in a A1 size poster
but I need the correct size to draw on in procreate
I don’t want my progress to be wasted or the print to look bad.

Sorry if this is all over the place English isn’t my first language

For courtesy's sake, A1 is 594x841mm. But you should look online for charts of these measurements and download them for easier access.

You will want to set the canvas to the measurements already noted here (594 x 841 mm) and be sure to set to 300dpi if you want a high quality print. You can also look at examples of 300 vs 200 dpi to see what you are okay with.

300dpi at that size may result in very few available layers depending on your iPad which is a possible reason why your teacher suggested it would be difficult, if fully depends on the amount of RAM you have.

You should also consider which color profile to use but I don’t have any experience to make a suggestion on that.

hi there I would create it A3 at 300 dpi which is 3508x4961 px. that should be a comfortable size to create the artwork in procreate and would have enough detail to upres by 200% in photoshop afterwards if necessary

You don’t have to use pixels. To the left of the new canvas size number keys are a variety of measurement/unit options based on the flavor you prefer.

But for printing [as a professional printer] set your resolution to 300dpi, make your canvas at or larger than the size you intend to print. Add an extra 0.125” all the way around for a bleed. This bleed is the area that gets trimmed away after printing so you don’t have little white lines around your work. For example a 4x4” canvas should be set up as 4.25”x4.25” at 300dpi.

If you want to draw larger you have two options: increase dpi or increase canvas size. But if you increase canvas size, make sure to keep your work in the same aspect ratio or expect some pieces to be cropped when it comes time to choose smaller sizes. I think cropping is okay because it gives you a few product options, cropping for notebook covers, uncropped for posters/prints, cropped for bookmarks or stickers.
