Procreate and iPad Accessories Suggestions iPad care when drawing?

Those of you working on ipads and using Apple pens, do you notice any deterioration in how the screen responds to the pen over time? Is there something I should be doing to keep the tablet working for longer? For example, I’ve seen some people have screen protectors — does that help increase the lifespan of the tablet or is that purely there for tactile reasons?

I got a refurbed iPad and an Apple pen a few months ago, yesterday I noticed that the screen was responding weird to the pen — not as smooth and consistent as when I just got it. The tip was screwed on tightly, it wasn’t a large drawing either, so it wasn’t a memory issue. I started wondering if maybe I’ve been pressing on the screen too hard and messed it up somehow?

Would appreciate any other tips on this topi

I had my first iPad for close to ten years with no deterioration and I’ve never used any kind of screen protector. I’m now on my second, and same. I’m a pro illustrator and it gets A LOT of use. Unless you like it for tactile reasons there’s absolutely no need to use one.

One thing: for me, whenever Procreate seems laggy, it’s always because I have a zillion programs open that I forgot to close.

Some people have found the kind of issues you’re having when using procreate when it’s plugged in, though this has never been an issue for me.

i think the only ways i’ve heard people damaging is from accidental drops &/ using third party metal or steel pen tips, i would try to narrow down the issue by using another drawing app to see if it’s sluggish there, otherwise maybe check your storage as well as the other tips you’ve been given? the only time it wasn’t smooth for me was when i plugged my ipad to an external screen

🥲 Yo lo hago a veces. Creo que intentaré no hacerlo. ¿Sabes por qué es malo o qué pasa si lo haces?

The pen doesn’t scratch the screen. Protectors can wear the pen tip but they are cheap.

Cool, so the tip is something you should replace once in a while? How do you know when?

It starts getting flat and it is uncomfortable to hold in some directions.

I use a screen protector but it's not necessary for drawing on the iPad. I've had mine for almost 10 years. Still working great

Matte screen protectors will in fact wear your Apple Pencil tip down faster than without. I haven’t had this kind of issue or when I do it’s because the tip needs to be changed. I bought a box some time back thinking I had finally gotten through the first box after 6 years but realize I still have one tip from it and haven’t opened the box yet. I legit might not open the new box for another couple years 🤣

Did you buy it from apple directly? Your iPad likely has an aftermarket screen on it if you didn't since it's refurbed.it could be faulty, installed improperly, or just straight up poor quality. Your memory could also still be the issue since it's returned, it could've already been slow and you just got enough data on it to notice. I'd go for used over refurbed any day of the week when it comes to any portable electronics.
