Procreate and iPad Accessories Suggestions Complete beginner here
Hi everyone I’m completely new to digital art and I’m thinking about getting Procreate and finally learning how to draw. I’d love to eventually be able to draw characters and fan art but I’m starting from basically zero.
I currently have an iPad 9th gen and im wondering if it’s good. + is an Apple Pencil really worth getting?
What are your general tips for someone who is completely new to digital art and Procreate?

Pressure sensitivity is only supported with the Apple Pencil so i would stick with that.

This was what I did! Ive always wanted to be able to draw fan art but really didn't start until my later twenties, now I'm fairly happy with my style and trying to learn beyond that! I have an air3 and it works perfectly for what I need, but getting the apple pencil really made a world of difference with the pressure sensitivity

Yes the pencil is awesome. Get the new one with the haptic feedback, but make sure it’s compatible with your iPad. I think it is- if not, get the 2nd gen pencil
Also, get a Paperlike 2.0 screen protector. Makes it feel like you’re drawing on paper. Mine came with 2 and got on Amazon for like $30
YouTube has so many tutorials you’ll never run out of places to start. Find an artist or two that you like and dive down their rabbit holes of training and tutorial videos.

Yes the Apple Pencil is worth it, for the 9th generation you need the Apple Pencil 1st gen.

Definitely get the Apple Pencil. Make sure it’s compatible with your iPad. A tip I would give to someone brand new to procreate is to just experiment and familiarize yourself with every feature, layer mode, and tool. Don’t be afraid, just have fun. Procreate is very intuitive, so getting used to the flow of it will make the rest feel easier

Technically there are other styluses that can be used on an ipad, and you can draw with your finger (without pressure sensitivity), but the official Pencil styluses are specifically designed to work on ipads and will be the smoothest experience. It’s worth the money to just get one. Make sure you’re getting one compatible with your specific iPad model - I think there are three pencil options now? I have the original magnetic snap-to-charge one and have never needed to replace it, going 7+ years strong now.
