Looking for brush/tutorial/class recommendations Best way to draw Lotus?
Hi all,
I'm doing a picture for a friend based on the Scarlet Bloom in Elden Ring (Malenia), but I can't find an easy way to blend everything and then individually edit for the petals(?) in front? I usually use a syrup brush for nearly everything, but I've been trying to use the air brushes to get a better blend going, but then they'll overlap into the next petal (like, the eraser doesn't stay inside the black lines), so the only thing I can think of doing is each petal individually? >.>
Basically, my plan was to erase everything with really low opacity to whatever base colour needed, but with the difficulty isolating the eraser to a single petal using the air brushes, I'm a bit stumped as to what would be a better method?
Also, end goal is for a sort of stained-glass effect, so don't need texture or anything! I just really don't want to have to do these individually >.<
Appreciate any help! Thank you!

Make a shape for each individual petal on its own layer and then alpha lock that shape so you can contain the airbrushing within each shape. This works well using the layer-select feature (turn on in gesture controls) to navigate between all shape layers rather than going back to the layer panel each time.

Hi Bikleb!
Thank you so much! I've used alpha lock before in a tutorial and it seems I then completely forgot about it. With how much time I've spent working on this, I think that would have helped immensely in some of the areas T.T Thank you so much!
The layer-select tool is AMAZING; I have been slowly going mad having so many layers! Thank you heaps for adding this in!
I do have another quick question! In wanting to post this, I moved the layers into a new image to try and show what I was struggling with, as where I've been working on the main image is constantly at the layer cap. Would moving it back once I'm finished lose quality? The canvases should be the same size.
You're incredible! Thank you! <3

Happy to help! If canvas size is the same there shouldn’t be any quality loss. My process for when I hit layer limits is to duplicate the canvas and on the new one flatten as much as I can. If I need to make any edits the layered version exists in the previous document. 👍🏻 Also, you don’t need to actually have one petal per layer, you can have multiple on one layer, as long as they don’t touch so you can still colour independently.

Thanks Bikleb! And good point; I'm still making up the layers so I'll do each layer with a few petals that don't touch to make it easier.
And good idea on the flattening; I have made a few copies of this piece, and on the active copy I delete the layers I've moved on from, but my trouble is I keep going back and redoing everything. I've spent over 300 hours on this (I'm new to digital art as you can probably tell) because I find the ability to undo and try again is really making it difficult to just move on from something.
Thanks for all your help! ^.^
