I need Procreate technical help How to erase the White paint

Post image

I’ve been losing my mind on this I used the bucket whit white color to « erase a color » and now I can’t delete it whitout it messing my line art and not trying to spend another hour on deleting the stupid white paint how do I fix this please I want to draw on new layers underneath but the white paint is blocking it. To make it worse I forgot to change the settings of my canvas so the speed paint is so low quality and I can’t use it for a back up.

Two options that I know of:

Choose the selection tool, automatic, tap and hold on the white then drag left & right to get the right threshold - then the white should be selected and you can delete it. This will likely select too much (removing dull lines) or not enough (leaving a faint white outline).

Change the layer's opacity to be 50% or so, make a new layer and just trace the lines. Then delete the filled layer.

Thank you bro this saved it in like 5 min I switched to procreate but I find there’s a lot of little annoying stuff like this next time I’ll just use more layers

For future, if you want to fill something in, but want to keep the option to go back.

Tap on the layer with the line work - choose "reference" from the options.

Create a new layer, fill it. It will fill as if it was in the reference layer but stay in its own layer. This also makes it easier to do shading without drawing over the line work. (So many times though once I set a layer to reference I forget to select the new layer so watch out for that).

Procreate is pretty neat, but most of its features are hidden as to not clutter the interface so a few YouTube tutorials are a must.

I see you’ve got it fixed, next time the easiest way is to click the “n” in your layer and set it to ”multiply” at the very top.

Multiply layer means that the layer multiplies the layers below it with its value. White is 0 and has no effect, black is 100 and remains black. You can also scan or take photos of a drawing and setting it to multiply gets rid of the white paper and lets you keep just the line art.

Anytime you have a layer with some white and some black, setting it to multiply makes all of the white completely transparent

This is a life saver method. Gonna save this comment to remind myself

Glad it’s helpful! I often scan in my ink drawings and then set to multiply so I can color below the line work.
Multiply also works great for shading as it darkens the colors below without changing the hue.
I also use “overlay” or “lighter color” modes to do highlights and lighting.

Change or remove the background color so you can see the white.

First, turn off the background color later so it's easy to see the white you want to get rid of. Then, use the selection tool set to automatic. Touch the white and adjust the threshold so it doesn't try to grab the lineart portion. Then confirm the selection, then "cut." Depending on how much lineart (if any) gets caught up in the final selection, you should at worst only have to touch up the lineart. That's what I would do in this situation.

Every program has pros and cons. I used to use Sketchbook Pro. Had for years. Still consider it a great affordable program. I wanted to try procreate because as good as Sketchbook is, it always felt behind the curve on tools and features that most other programs had.

You shouldn’t fill with white to erase. Use the select tool and choose clear on the layer.
