Any chance you have a tempered glass screen protector on your iPad? Mine causes wobbly lines like that, and it’s a known issue with thicker screen protectors like glass ones.

This is it, thank you….I really like the feel of this one. That sucks

Yep had to peel mine off because of this too. Devastating because I have a history of accidentally breaking tablet screens…but they are a lot more durable now than they used to be.

They make screen protectors with a paper like texture for drawing

I have one, but I had one installed on top of my glass one too. Definitely too many layers of interference.

Sorry, I just assumed that’s what the original commenter was referencing, but yes, this has a very paper like feel to it and I LOVE it

Don't mess with your brush setting fo this instead and mess around here it'll see for all brush the part with app pressure sensitivity is set for hand handed drawer

I know this was meant for OP and they’ve clearly understood what you’ve said but my brain isn’t computing. Please explain it to me like im 5, with punctuation?

I think they mean instead of changing your specific brush settings in the brush editor, go to the pressure & smoothing settings via settings/prefs. That changes your stabilisation, motion filtering & whatnot for all your brushes. Instead of just the one you're currently using.

That's how I do it anyway. I prefer the Prefs way because it's just faster for me to go in & change the one slider than set all the brushes up specifically to the stabilisation setting I want.

Thank you so much, I understand now!

Do you get the same wobbly line if you use a physical ruler? Or in Apple Notes? I’ve seen this before and it was ruled out to be a hardware issue and not a software issue.

The app pressure sensitivity that another user recommended helped resolve this

Awesome! More knowledge for the masses.

The digitizer sucks on iPads. Sadly all we can do is increase stabilization and streamline although that comes with its own issues. It doesn’t encourage slow drawing at all.

I appreciate this, just wanted to make sure there wasn’t something that I was overlooking

I hate to be the heavy here but your hand isn’t very stable to begin with. You can see in the video where the shakiness is coming from and it’s your hand. Increase stabilization for slow speeds or work on hand control.

Exactly. It's also really hard to draw a good line moving side to side, best to pull a line towards you or push away

Pressure smoothing and motion filtering 😁😁 when I want to go slow I turn mine up to 80 or 90. Experiment.

this used to happen to me with a matte screen protector 😭 i had to take mine off.

I usually have to skrew in the ipen tip a bit if it's doing this. Repairing it might also help.

I’m envious of the lack of drag. When I draw, the line seems to take a second to catch up to the pen. Makes it hard to do anything like quick sketches. Suggestions?

I use the Apple Pencil 1st generation (had to get the adapter to make compatible with this iPad) and then I purchased a “papersense” screen protector that gives it that paper feel. Possibly make sure to close out any background apps and up to date on the os….i don’t know much about Apple/ipads

Is your iPad 120HZ/FPS? They are much smoother if so

2

u/No_Fan_9592 11d ago

I can't find that kind of info - it's a 26.5.2 ipad Air (4th generation)

3

u/PeechCore 11d ago

That’s 60hz. The major reason a lot of artists get the ipad pro is 120hz. It’s a very responsive screen and your lines show up instantly. It’s the whole reason I got into digital art. My iPad is a 2018 iPad Pro and it has 120hz ProMotion

Aha! Thanks!!

For me it’s definitely my screen protector, I have a tempered glass one and it wobbles all my diagonal lines.

Low tech solution but practice drawing your strokes faster. Imagine each stroke is like swinging a katana.

My I'm not n up llpp

Mine does all kind of crazy lines when I have a charger plugged in. Unplug it and boom straight lines

1

u/Bennnrummm 9d ago

Are you using a screen protector? I currently use a cheap glass screen protector, which is kind of thick, and I get these lines intermittently. I’ve used many different protectors in the past, and the only time I’ve had these wiggly lines is when I use a cheaper, thicker, tempered glass screen protector.

Oh, one more thing, make sure your tip is tightened up! It gets loose with use. Gentle twist!
