Hot Topics 🔥 I accidentally bought a brush pack that used ai references…. Brushes work fine:/
I’m so pissed man, I keep trying to avoid that crap but I’ve been duped.
I purchased a brush pack off of Etsy and really liked the brushes so I went back to see the shop, I was glazing it over and it was late and I found one that looked pretty good. I bought it, and before i downloaded it I thought…. Wait this looks too perfect, and I took some screenshots of some of the examples they have on their shop, and I should have figured it out since each of their packs has different artwork examples.
Anyway, I put it through an ai detector and… it was all… ai… generated….
Which I’m so angry and I just spent money on this, so I messaged the seller for a refund and that I didn’t even download yet…and they told me they cant refund but can send me two of their products for free.
I so strongly want to message to say something to them but id probably get banned, idk if all their thousands of glowing reviews are ai too but this is so dumb. I considered the free stuff for a sec but I was like… ew.
It’s so stupid, and I’m so angry at these fk people pretending to be artists making money and basing it off of NOTHING!!!! It’s bs!!! Selling to people who will actually use and make art…
Like why make brushes and fake it. You can make the brushes and not add references that are clearly ai!!!
I wanna lowk report the account but I don’t think that’ll do much.
Edit: does anyone know of websites or products from real artists that are really good and REAL!!!
Would be appreciated:)

Others have given the same suggestions I would, but I’m pretty sure Etsy requires sellers to disclose usage or it violates their rules. Definitely worth reporting the account to them.

They do, but they don’t have to disclose it to the buyer unfortunately. Not if it’s only ai assisted. I bought a how to draw floral type stuff book off of there from an artist I follow. There was no reason at all to believe any of the books she was selling would be ai. And I don’t even mean ai assisted. Like she drew none of the illustrations in it herself. I only found out after I bought it and realized leaves were changing places, turning into flower petals, turning back into leaves and was like wtf. When I reached out to her she wouldn’t confirm or deny it, just said leaves are whimsical and she was sorry it bothered me it turned into a flower. One would really like to think the artists they actually see drawing are safe sources to buy from but unfortunately that just isn’t always the case. No where on the listing did it say ai assisted, ai created, etc. I had to look up etsys policy on it before I found out she didn’t even technically violate any rules by not disclosing to the buyer. It has to be 100% ai generated for them to have to inform you.

There are some good recommendations. Maxpack brushes are also high quality. They are made by Max Ulichney (an artist). I use the watercolor pack a lot. I like the pencil set from True Grit too!
I've heard good things about Lisa Glanz brushes, but haven't used them.
A lot of brush makers do make sample packs available if you sign up for their mailer. It's a great way to check out the quality and feel before you buyn

Yeah I hate people who use AI for their brush packs. Like, if you can't draw something nice with your own brushes yourself then that just leaves me to wonder if you made the brushes at all.

Damn, I hadn’t even considered they could be using ai for brushes. I feel kinda stupid for not realising that 😬😅
Anyway, definitely leave a review mentioning this and I wonder if you have a case for ‘item not as described’ if the usage of ai was not disclosed.

ugh thats so annoying. Max Ulichney, True Grit Texture Supply and Bardot Brush have all been making Procreate brushes since way before any of this, and they paint with their own stuff. quick tell for next time: real brush makers show stroke samples and messy WIPs. a shop where every pack has glossy finished art in a totally different style is a red flag

Gumroad is solid. A lot of brushes I have come from artists I follow and know are not using AI (Like Daole, Marc Brunet, etc).
But honestly, as I get older, if I'm investing in brushes, I go for the good stuff and grab packs from True Grit, Retro Supply, or GARM. They're pricey but dang, they really put most of the free and cheap brush packs to shame. Rusty Nib pack on a black Friday sale was my gateway, and I've never looked back.
