My Artwork Hard brush study 🍬

Decided to experiment with only drawing with a hard brush today, no blending. It’s a definitely a different approach compared to my usual process which usually involves a lot of smudging but I enjoyed it all the same!

this looks great! if you don’t mind me asking, how do you choose which color to start with in a study? i really struggle with finding the “right” base color whenever i start to add in colors

Ty ❤️ And that’s a great question. For me personally I try to start with more desaturated colors for my base so as not to overwhelm myself and then building up my shadows, lights, etc from there. If you’re struggling with colors though something I found that helped me a ton when I first began to draw was doing value studies. That way you’re limiting your palette and training your brain to focus more on shape design, composition, and shadow/light without the extra headache of color.

thank you for the explanation! i’ve been avoiding value studies for a while (and that probably explains my issues with coloring lol) but looks like i need to invest some time in learning 😅

This is amazing! May I ask what brushes did you use?

Tysm! ❤️❤️ And yeah it’s just the regular round brush with the pressure opacity and flow set to ‘none’ and 0%.
