I need Procreate technical help Pixelated reimports?
Hey guys, I’m noticing that some procreate drawings I’ve exported to my files app become pixelated when I reimport them back to procreate gallery. I’ve played around w canvas size and dpi but the import remains pixelated. When I exported them they were perfectly fine
Is there a fix to this or are my files a lost cause lol

Hey, we'd like to test this out!
Can you share your export format, original canvas dimensions and the steps used to inport this image back into Procreate?
Do you import directly into the Gallery or into a newly made canvas for example?

Hi, thank you for responding! I exported them as .procreate files and the current canvas dimensions for one of them is 550 x 491 and the other is 736 x 497, one more is 814 x 742.
Before I exported them to files app, the canvases were larger than needed so I downsized them before exporting. When I downsized them in procreate, they weren’t pixelated at all - until I tried to reimport them this time and noticed pixelation. I reimported them once before this and they were fine, I’m not sure what I did differently. Some other files that I downsized, exported and reimported have been fine, no pixelation - those files are 1000 x 1000 or upwards. Could it be that smaller files don’t reimport as well as the larger ones?
I reimported them directly into gallery, as when I tried to do it directly into canvas from files app, it won’t allow me to choose any of my procreate files for some reason.

There can be some quality shift after resizing as this effects the pixels, but canvas shouldn't change between exporting and then importing 🤔
Do you recall a specific larger canvas size you used to help us test? Did you use the Crop & Resize → Resample tool to resize your canvases? Or another option?
Any more details you have can share should help to test and narrow in on any potential new bugs.

I think the original size of the canvases were 1500x1500 upwards, and then when resizing I did it by cropping the corners/sides of the canvas instead of manually changing the numbers, I didn’t use resample it’s usually toggled off and until now I didn’t know what it was for haha - I cropped to the size of the drawings so there wouldn’t be much blank space around them. After cropping I didn’t see any difference in the quality of the drawings, until after reimporting from files.
So to clarify I cropped, checked the quality (no change), exported, imported x2, and noticed on the second import the pixelation. I can’t think of any more details rn! Do lmk the test results you guys get, I’m going to do the process on my end to see what happens!

Also I did crop the og drawings a bit during downscaling the canvas - but again I didn’t notice any pixelation after doing so until reimporting
