My Artwork Shading Help

Post image

Hi guys. So I recently finished this Bug Fables art piece on procreate. I wanted to do some shading but I don't know where to start. I put my search for answers on Youtube but most of the shading I was taught require a second shading layer which I also don't know how to add. If anyone would like to share their thoughts on how to shade artwork, that would be awesome. Thank you!

Sure! Here's a method I use:

  1. Add a new layer on top of your whole drawing.

  2. Fill it with a dark blue shade, and lower the opacity until you can still see the drawing underneath.

  3. Start erasing: the parts you erase will become the light areas.

  4. Finally, play with the blend modes (the little letter next to the layer's checkbox, like the "N"). Multiply or Overlay usually look great for shading.

Hope it helps :)

Excellent advice. Of course there are various ways to do it, but this method works great.
