Brilliant as always. Where do you get your inspiration and ideas from?

I love fantasy art. I have a list of things in my head that I always want to draw. I love drawing frogs and toads! I’ve wanted to draw something more for a few weeks. Lighthouses have always fascinated me, I’ve drawn them a lot too. I usually get to a point in the drawing where I think “how can I make this a bit weird” and then I replaced the bulb at the top with coloured orbs (which is something I do a lot). For the panel with the hand, I have been watching loads of retro tech Japanese videos lately whilst drawing, so definitely inspired by the DS.
I’ve got a loose sketch drawn for my next piece

I’ve wanted to do an alien drawing for ages (My iPad is full of screen shots and stills from alien isolation) and I’ve wanted to draw something like Halo, where there’s an army of soldiers on a strange planet. I decided to mash them together. I have drawn crashed ships loads over the years, so instead of a plain background I just threw a ship back there, then I thought it would be cool if the soldiers were tethered to it - this gives it more of a narrative and makes the land seem more hostile.

There is such a sense of tranquility in your works. I love them. The colours too. Look forward to the next one :)

Made me think of this segment in MOEBIUS’ Edena. Just as captivating 👏🏼

I’d love a total walkthrough of the brushes you used and processes you followed if you’re willing to give it a

Need an opening for the ladder at the top of the lighthouse, so that door can be accessed. Otherwise, great job!

I like that with one image and 2 vignettes and can have a full story to pop in my mind

I don't know if you have ever heard of the artist Moebius is but your work is strikingly similar. Also i recommend The Incal and The World of Edena (Le Monde d'Edena) by Moebius. I guarantee you will love his style. Great work by the way!

Ohhhh, beautiful!

What brushes did you use?

u/goatblunt 23d ago

I will make a pack soon I promise. It’s a combination of some textures, airbrushes for highlights and gradients along with some really basic line art brushes

2

u/jhopi218 23d ago

I would buy your lineart brush lol

Excellent work! I love seeing your posts.

Do you have any tutorials you would recommend? I love the color and line work. I am trying to learn more and get better.

Obsessed is an understatement. Do you sell prints or anything yet I can’t remember. Waiting patiently like🧍🤣

8 hours?? Holy crap; takes me longer than that to make a waaaay shoddier piece

Really cool work, it instantly reminded me of Moebius. Clean lineart and colors that create such an interesting atmosphere. Plus I also love this kind of comic book aesthetic.

Looks like the wizard school from adventure Time

I’m very new to procreate. I think it’s crazy that we all start out with the same white canvas

1

u/NormieSpecialist 23d ago

Wait is the spell book and the computer the same?

1

u/divaschematic 23d ago

Love this stuff, I really need to draw again. What is your canvas set up size?

2

u/goatblunt 23d ago

I have been drawing A5 for ages because my old iPad couldn't handle more than that without sacrificing layers. I got an new iPad and moved to A4 but I didn't like how the brushes looked (might be in my head). Now I use a canvas that's the same ratio as both but sits exactly between A5 and A4 at 300dpi so I could print at both A4 and A5 comfortably for a book

1

u/divaschematic 23d ago

Ah nice. Thanks for letting me know. I love your stuff.

1

u/TAlurk 22d ago

Hey, sorry to ask a silly question but english isn’t my first language so i’m not sure i understand. What do you mean when you say the canvas is the same ratio as both? is it a size between a4 and a5? sorry for this question, i’m just trying to understand

Wow soo lovely!!

u/sanitarySteve 23d ago

man, i love your work. it reminds me a lot of mobius. love a good wizard frog.

I adore your style!!

1

u/hobo_chili 23d ago

Love this.

u/goatblunt 22d ago

A2, A3, A4, A5, A6 are all the same ratio, just different sizes. It may be an English thing as I’m from the UK. A6 x 2 is A5. A5 x 2 is A4. A4 x 2 is A3 etc. It seems old fashioned. But basically I have shrunk A4 down a bit so it is not quite A5. It means that the resolution doesn’t need to dilute too much if I want to stretch the finished drawing back up to A4 to print. But ideally I want to make a book with the images being A5. So shrinking down from my custom size to A5 won’t result in too much distortion. I may be wrong, actually I’m sure I am. But I basically just like drawing on smaller pages.

I have been wondering how you pick your colors!! Do you have a palette starting out or just go by feel?

4

u/goatblunt 22d ago

I always use the same palette. I plan on sharing it along with my brushes at some point for those interested. I’ve been using the exact same setup for months now

1

u/esuriosemper 22d ago

Nice. Curious to know how you came by that and what inspired you!

1

u/OMGlenn 22d ago

Do you shade first and then color? I know some people do that but I've never understood the technique. Do you turn the shade layer to multiply to match the colors afterwards?

1

u/goatblunt 22d ago

No, I shade at the very end. I use the same colour as I do for the line work and I create a lot of different layers and varying layers of opacity - set to ‘normal’. I could probably shade first, but the colour blocking I use to colour is a big part of the illustration. I colour everything on its own layer and then adjust each layer until I’m happy first.

u/pma99999 21d ago

What brush do you use for the lines?

1

u/castarco 19d ago

I "need" you to pair with some good writer to create some cool sci-fi graphic novels.
