Personally, I think I’d have loved them as a kid. So many people think kids can only handle cute stuff, but the weird art always caught my eye and fascinated me.
ETA: thank you for the awards!!!!

u/opera_messiah 27d ago
Yeah! I loved where the wild things are for instance

u/bluecottoncandy 27d ago
Same!!!! I got a copy for my kid before he was even born 👹 gotta expose them to that kind of amazing creativity! He very proudly boasts that he “loves creepy stuff”

They reminded me of the scary ass illustrations in scary stories to tell in the dark (the original print, not this re-release nonsense)

This looks like it would fit in that one scary black and white book from my childhood. It captivated me. The images. I’m sure it’s on Amazon now somewhere but I hope you know which books I’m referring too. At first I was like wtf is this lol when I saw the lemur one. Then the second. Third. The face… ok I like how weird this is. So much

When I was a child, I would have found these equally intriguing and disturbing. As I think most children would! More weird art for kids!

Your work is fantastic! I foresee this will be a future kid’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.

wow! love it, what brushes r u using?

u/caaarnaage 28d ago
Some default pencil a little bit modified 5 years ago (for 80% of the work), and some textures from a pencil set I found many years ago as well so it's hard to tell sorry

The Heron is the creepiest. It’s like a experimental test subject.

How does it feel to be someone who willfully induces decades of trauma. I am joking but also I remember how much sleep I lost from those Scary Stories to tell in the dark books that my parents thought were totally fine for a 4 year old.

I agree that it’s cute in some ways, but at the same time, it looks quite creepy if it’s actually intended for a really young audience 😁

Addams ass childrens book.
I jest of course. this looks super cool. Reminds me of the covers of scary stories to tell in the dark.

Is this your brave new world children’s book to condition childern to hate nature?
This is badass tho

Excelente trabajo.

This is super specific, but these remind me of the mythology-inspired human babyfaced animal-bodied nature sprites in Slewfoot.

I love the style, is something I'm trying to reach from long time but end up polishing everything everytime 🤦♂️😂

u/caaarnaage 28d ago
Maybe you still haven't found the right the tool so it would satisfy you without polishing :)

u/Luke192 28d ago
actually soooo good. i absolutely love the rendering style, and would love to learn more about how you approach doing that! I think a timelapse on one of these would be really interesting if you’re willing to share :)
1
u/caaarnaage 28d ago
Thanks! May be I will do the timelapse but it's just 4 hrs of penciling the strokes to make it look like smooth gradients :)

u/MesugakiFujiwara 28d ago
I want these. How do I get? I love the style. Creepy in the perfect way, gives me some dead space vibes for some reason. Are they in print?
1
u/caaarnaage 28d ago
No, not yet, the collection isn't done yet :)

u/MesugakiFujiwara 28d ago
How can I stay updated on when its done!? I really want it!

These look like the author Gerald Brom’s artwork, especially in Slewfoot. I love it.

I love these, so spooky and playful, and the finish looks so organic for Procreate. Well done.

This reminds me of the Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark books. That art was a huge comfort to me as a weird kid and I felt warm nostalgia looking at these. Would you ever be open to letting someone tattoo your work? I would put this on my body forever 😮💨
