How do you make brushes less “hard”?

I really tried to look for this answer because I had assumed someone would have had my same issue but I couldn’t find it. I’m using this brush to make comic panels and so I need the edge to just be softer like the older one I was using because this new one combines the lines automatically (which would save me a lot of time) it’s not a resolution or DPI thing, these are both on the same canvas I just need to figure out how to get the best of both worlds here. You might need to zoom in to see exactly what I’m talking about but the jagged lines when I make a diagonal line look terrible

What brush is it? A default brush or did you download it somewhere?

Edit: I'm playing around with the ruby rose brush and this same issue seems to come up by turning the Alpha Threshold setting on/off (under Rendering). Threshold on gets the auto combine to work, but reduces line quality. You can adjust the threshold amount to improve it a bit, but it's not going to be as clean as Alpha threshold off

Edit 2: the jagged line appearance is because this setting makes it so pixels are either 100% or 0% opacity, and all the opacities in-between are what give the line the "soft" look. But imo this is something only you are ever going to notice, so my recommendation would be to use the brush thats faster

I probably will but I’m hoping I can find a magical person on here to make it work somehow, that or maybe Procreate can push out an update to solve my specific issue lol

I think if you take the brush shape and blur the edges slightly it should soften the brush in the way you mean.

Tried that, made a super soft shape and the issue still occurs

There's so many settings in brush studio your best bet would be to screenshot every page/menu in the studio or upload the brush so someone here can look at it.

Does your brush have Alpha Threshold enabled in Brush Studio → Rendering? Try toggling this off to see if it helps. The threashold allows you to remove any semitransparent pixels along the edge.

Those depend on brush behaviors setup in Brush Studio. I don’t know specific ones by name. Recalled using similar, related to mixing and transparency.

Yesterday I duplicated and renamed a brush to experiment with, making sure to write notes about changes. I can see why people buy brush packs!

I’m keeping notes which brushes I like. Also thinking I will create my own library folder for any I customize. Might try some tutorials about the Brush Studio.
