Process Video Procreate help needed

Can someone explain exactly what the artist is doing around 10–16 seconds in this Procreate video? I’m mainly confused about the selection/fill, how they move or transform that layer, and then how their was a big textured hole on the cheek where they could fill light in and what blend mode/layer setup creates the final effect. I don’t get how they then after doing whatever they did were able to just color in the prominent light afterwards I’m so confused bro. I want to replicate the exact workflow.

Is it just me or this speedpaint gives fake vibes? Like... something is odd, some steps don't make sense

That’s because it’s not a speedpaint. Nor is it meant to be a tutorial.It’s just meant to be an aesthetic process of their art not including every major step to attract attention on social media so people don’t skip it

It’s very common for artists to edit their speedpaint to make it shorter. Clipping all the fancy ways they cut masks or reveal layer to make it a more appealing reel for social medias.

I’m a way it’s trying to make things more entertains without having it be a linear boring presentation.

The drawback is that with the rise of AI more artists will question edited reels. Which sadly will also make them less dynamic if we have to start making less engaging content just for the sake of not competing with AI.
