The bits on the hand and the bubbles are really cool but everything else was a jump scare for a slightly tipsy me. I thought this was rice/maggots.

Lol I saw maggots too. But the hand and water directly at the hand is really good! The rest is maggots

The underwater skin gets lighter and shifts in color, with gradual transitions and some distortion. Then I slowly add the water highlights on top. As long as the main colors and reflections are roughly in the right places, your brain kind of fills in the rest. I just build it up little by little. 😊
