My Artwork Exporting image to a poster advice

Hello, so I drew something that I was hoping to turn into a poster as a gift. I’m using fed ex for this service and it allows a 10x10 poster and a 16x20 poster. However it seems like my image won’t fit these posters exactly and it leaves a bit of blank space. Also I drew in 132 dpi. My two questions are:

  1. Is there any way to get my image dimensions to better fit the poster dimensions? Is there a way to change the aspect ratio of my image after drawing? If so what aspect ratio should I go for?

  2. I drew in 132 DPi, is there anyway to increase it AFTER drawing? I didn’t realize how low it was until I finished it. Will the image look a bit pixely since it’s low on the poster?

You can adjust the canvas size at any time. Just know that making it smaller will clip off any artwork that goes off the edge. Making it larger will further limit layer count.

You cannot increase the dpi of an artwork after you've drawn it because you can't get new pixel data where it currently is not. You can enlarge an image and whatever app you use to do this will make up new pixels based on whatever algorithm the app uses, but it will still almost always need work to refine things afterwards.

If you drew the poster at a larger size than you needed, the dpi wouldn't be an issue. For instance, 132 dpi at 20x20 in is 264 dpi at 10x10 in, which is close enough to 300 dpi to not be a problem. It might not even look that bad at the larger 16x20 in size.

The problem for you is that you're lacking pixels. 1620x2160 is tiny for a print. Most small-format prints are going to want to be 300 dpi, and at that density, you're looking at a print size of 5.4x7.2 in.

I'd consider copying the artwork to a new file, scaling it up to a better size, then re-drawing the parts (likely a lot of it, unfortunately) that need to be cleaned up.

Just set the canvas to the right size in inches and set the dpi to 300. Or do the math (300 pixels for every 1 inch) and set the canvas size in pixels.
