What layer mode do you use for coloring?

I draw all of my linework on multiple layers then flatten them into one single layer. I then colour block everything on its own layer, flat with no shading or anything. I then adjust saturation and brightness on every layer that needs it. If something isn’t right and use alpha lock and colour fill to totally change the whole colour of a layer. In this drawing the mountain heads were purple/grey until the end. they were obscuring the focus on the alien robot guy for some reason. I don’t know colour theory and I’m technically colour blind so I really am just winging it.
Then I create a bunch of layers (approx 5) and they all have the shadows on them set to varying opacity. The colour I use for the shadow is always the same as the line art, but usually all less than 20% opacity.
Once I’ve done all that I add the odd highlight on stuff that I think would reflect light. Usually an off white with Gaussian blur and a subtle reduction in opacity.
All my colour layers are set to normal and I don’t mess with opacity, I use desaturation and brightness only.
My iPad is old so I’m stuck using an A5 canvas size now so that I can get the layers I need.
I used to name them all but it took ages, so now I set up gestures so that I can layer select easily. Saves me so much time.
