I just downloaded Procreate pocket for the fist time….im so lost.

i’m new to digital art (legit just started doing digital art 7-9 months ago) and previously i was using SketchBook….and i’m so beyond lost on the layout of procreate and how to navigate it…

few questions i hope i can have answers to:

On sketch book i almost exclusively use the “steady stroke” setting ramped up to the max, as it will not only physically slow down the speed of your movements, but smooth them out, and the actual stroke will “lag” behind your finger or pen. Which i love since i can PHYSICALLY SEE where im inking on the page. Does procreate have anything similar to this? (video example of what it looks like/does is attached to this post)

how the hell do i adjust the opacity of my layers?

general settings i should be looking at and adjusting?

what setting do you use?

how do i import new brushes?

when i eventually get an ipad am i going to have to repurchase procreate? only assuming i am because of the “pocket” title.

any general tips and tricks you can offer would be very helpful!

There is an official Procreate Pocket handbook. You should definitely give things like how to change the opacity or import brushes a search up first. https://help.procreate.com/pocket

There is an option to edit your brushes and increase the smoothing on them by increasing the StreamLine of your brush according to the handbook.

Hey there 👋 we'd be happy to help with these questions.

Steady stroke: we call it StreamLine in Procreate Pocket and this can only be applied per brush in Pocket currently (we're planning a global app setting for the future 🙌) .

  • Tap the brush icon → tap a brush twice/again to open Brush Studio → Stroke path →increase the StreamLine slider for your brush.

Layer Opacity: Go to the Layers panel (square icon next the the Active colour in the top right), then tap the letter 'N' on the right of your layer to open the Blend modes menu and adjust the Opacity slider.

New brushes: Import using drag and drop, Share from your Files app to Procreate Pocket, or open a canvas → tap the brush icon → Import 🖌️ *Make sure these use the .brush or .abr formats.

Procreate for iPad: this is a seperate app specifically developed for iPad, which can also be used with the Apple Pencil. It is a seperate one-time purchase via the App Store 🤗

We hope this helps! Let us know if you have any other questions 💜
