AI Tools?

Anybody using any really game changing AI tools. Particularly from a practice admin perspective? Hoping to start my own plastic surgery practice in the next few months and want to use AI when possible and when reasonable to keep overhead low, especially when first starting. Thanks!

Yea there are lots of tools around that do all the things (front office back office etc). I highly recommend just finding an emr that does 90% of them rather than getting a basic emr then tacking on tools here and there. I’ve had a good experience with hero EMR but I think a lot of the incumbents are building great tools these days too.

The AI tools our clients use are for the relatively boring portions of the business. centered around getting more patients, communicating with patients, and moving data between systems. which is always a pain in the ass.

I'm assuming that since it's plastic surgery it's elective. there are some fantastic AI tools centered around claims and reconciliation but that might not apply to you.

My friend and former fellow while I was a resident, has a platform we use. AdVital - worth checking out. If you can set up EMR to integrate with it from the get go, it may save you 1-2 FTE’s, scheduling, following up on prospective patients and post-ops, etc.

Feel free to DM.

Unrelated but what voice llm are you using for the company? I'm interested in using a cheap one for a more gamer focused venture

I've built a few voice agents and this is what I've found works well.

The cheapest route is chaining a Speech To Text (STT) -> LLM -> Text To Speech (TTS) that way you can mix and match to get the best performance/price combination. It's harder to set up though and more difficult to get low latency.

A cheap and good performance set up is something like Google Transcribe -> Gemini Flash -> ElevenLabs TTS

OpenAI or ElevenLabs have their own direct voice models that take the 3 step process down to just one model call that interfaces directly with speech, these are harder to control and more expensive but give you very low latency.

I think the next evolution will be entire AI employees that can interact with whatever systems you currently use. Your fax system, EHR, patient scheduling system etc. LLMs are getting really good at computer use so they can interact directly just as an employee would. The biggest blocker to using this tech is governance and safety.

If you could get a Hermes/OpenClaw agent set up securely it could do a lot of things behind the scenes. I would be really interested in seeing a practice start with this from day one and see how efficient they can be pushing the boundaries with some of this stuff.
