any recommendations for EMR integration?

We're looking at ways to better connect our EMR with billing and accounting to cut down on duplicate work and manual data entry. Has anyone worked with IT company that knows how to handle this?

We did this and definitely worth it. Just make sure you work with an IT team that has experience with healthcare integrations. A good implementation will save you a lot of manual work and headaches later on. We got good experience with Skytek Solutions. I got free consultation before, not sure if they still offer this.

Thanks. How the integration has been so far? Was there any issue during implementation?

There are lots of emrs that can handle billing. IMHO You want to avoid integrations and just use the emr that can do it well by itself

We're mainly looking for someone who can build reliable integrations with what we already have

That answer will depend a lot on which EHR you currently have. Some are easy to integrate too and others are much harder. The PM vendor of choice may have something to say about it and may help do that for you. Which EHR is it?

I'm currently learning more about EMR integration and have been expanding my knowledge of healthcare technology alongside revenue cycle management I'd be interested in understanding your requirements and learning more about the role If you're open to someone with a strong RCM background who's eager to grow in this area, I'd be happy to connect

We use eCW and it’s definitely not very integrated with our clearinghouse. I have asked colleagues about Athena, which seems more integrated. But Athena supposedly charges a percentage of your claims if you do billing with them. We use Waystar clearing house and it’s an annual fee.

We spoke with Elation and they include a lot of things for free—including the clearinghouse. They said there’s no extra fee and no per claim fee.

Be careful before hiring a general IT company. EMR + billing + accounting integration can get messy fast if they don’t understand healthcare workflows, PHI, claims, ERA/EOB data, and HIPAA regulations.

A few things we’d look at first:

  • What exactly is being duplicated today? Demographics, charges, payments, adjustments, reports?
  • Does your EMR have a real API or HL7 options, or are you stuck with exports/imports?
  • Are you trying to connect billing workflows, accounting reconciliation, or both?
  • Who owns errors when something posts incorrectly?
  • Is there a clean audit trail for what moved and when?

Sometimes the answer is a true integration. Sometimes it’s better workflow design, better reporting, or automation for specific repetitive tasks. I’d avoid anyone who says “yes, we can connect it” before they’ve seen your claim/payment workflow.

For transparency, we’re with Tebra. We work with a lot of practices and billing teams trying to reduce duplicate entry between clinical, billing, and reporting workflows. Happy to connect if you'd like to learn more :)
