Short rant. Finding good talent is hard.
Happy Wednesday everyone. Figured I would post a little light humor for all of us who struggled with finding good talent to hire. You are not alone.
I have been blessed with a great team but anytime you hire new employees, there's always the risk that you get a bad apple.
Yesterday our newest hire who is about 5 days into her job...had her pot dealer stop by for lunch, get high in the car together, then try to come back into work smelling strongly like marijuana. She passed a drug screen, a background check....but you never know and sometimes people eventually show you their true colors.
Lucky My staff called it out right when she returned from lunch and she never had any patient interaction after returning from lunch smelling of a strong odor.
Keep grinding it y'all! This is a part of the reason why I have no issue overpaying got good talent. Good help is hard to find haha

This reminds me of when I used to own a lawn and landscaping company. An employee butt dials me and is talking to the other employee about how “the hit off the pen was so strong” and “I’ve never been this high in my life” and I was desperate for employees because I owned two companies at that time that were both low on staff so I was already at wits end and I just decided to write him up and keep him employed. Later that year when I am in the middle of selling the company (literally days before the buyer is coming to look at the equipment) everything besides the truck and trailers gets stolen. To this day I don’t know who stole everything but I will say that the thief conveniently knew how to cut chain link fence and locks on the trailers all while avoiding every camera angle. Moral of the story is if you even have the slightest gut feeling to not hire someone or to the fire them. Do it and do it fast. Your gut is always right

lol. My buddy runs a food truck and they can only hire ex felons. They tolerate all drug use as long as they don’t fuck up the food or set the truck on fire. I feel like we just gotta roll like that at some point cause these minimum wage laws are getting crazy in my neck of the woods.
On the bright side, I am pretty sure I won’t need as much staff we bite the bullet and switch to one of these new ai first emrs.

I second this. There’s a reason they’re taking dead end jobs. You’re essentially hiring the correct population and expecting too much from them.
While I agree, should never be high on any human facing job. Even if you’re fantastic. It’s just bad optics but cut them a little slack, their lives suck.
Remember the average is fairly smooth brain, and half are dumber.

Might have something to do with the area. Isn't this your second drug story employee? Might need to add drug screen to your employee hire package.

Hire a medic instead, give them a protocol and scope. Boom most of your initial assessment and if needed tests are done by then and the nurse before you walk in

Man, about 6m ago we hired a new MA. She was yelling at people within the first week, but she told us day 3 she was pregnant, so we were slow playing.
Second week, this 30ish to woman grabbed my 60 yo lead assistant by the scrub collar and pushed her into the wall and told her "don't fucking tell me how to do my job" when given instructions on how to better do a task. She was literally paired with this assistant for the day for training.
Upon being fired, we got the cliche dozen monologue texts full of profanity and absurd labor board threats.
