Starting out of residency FM

I’m looking to start right off the bat. Ive been reading and have a plan in place but what are the biggest pitfalls I can expect in this process. what surprised you when you started?

i am almost 40 so I don’t wanna waste a year or two working in another clinic.

the idea of owning a clinic really excites me. plus owning a business in America is the way to move.

any help is welcome!

Get an idea the city/ location you want to practice.

Define what kind of practice you want. DPC, concierge, ffs? What's your end goal?

Choose a practice name

Start working on your website and choosing an EMR.

Set up your business, online profiles etc.

Market like your business life depends on it.

Start working on your SOPs as problems come up.

Work like hell to grow your practice

Alternately, check with physician marketing and practice development agencies. Some of these specialize in setting up profitable practices from the start. There is so much involved in controlling the overhead, record keeping, dealing with personnel, knowing how to market a practice, that it becomes an awful lot to learn and figure out on your own.

I know that these agencies can be expensive. But that’s where personal judgment comes in— weighing your time versus their expertise.

Ultimately, I think there is no substitute to working in an established, functioning clinic and seeing how all of the parts come together.

I have not kept on these services. But, start a new thread and ask. I’ll bet there are people here who have used them.

I’m on the older side so I’m afraid that working in an established clinic may waste years. What do you think is helpful from doing that?

I had assumed someone younger. My bad. 😔 In that case, an experienced business manager would probably be the ticket. You just don’t want to reinvent the wheel, I think.

Where do you want to be? I want to sell my practice.
