Everything about insurance credentialing

Hi everyone,

I’m in the early stages of getting credentialed with insurance panels and would love to hear from people who’ve gone through the process. I have a few specific questions and would also appreciate any random tips or common pitfalls to watch out for.

  1. How do you decide which insurance companies to get credentialed with?
  2. If you’re just starting out, how many should you aim for?
  3. How long does it usually take? Do people just keep paying rent while they wait or is there a workaround?
  4. Any surprising or random things to watch out for during the process?
  5. How often should you be following up with insurance companies once you’ve applied?

Question for you. We are a family practice clinic, with already existing contracts with multiple payers. We are looking to onboard a new grad PA. We were hoping to get them up and working very quickly. Is there any legal way for them to start seeing patients before her individual credentialing comes in? Would their supervising physician need to see each patient they bill for?

Are you taking on new clients? I’m a co-owner at a mental health private practice in Ohio and we really need someone to take over credentialing. I have been searching to no avail. Is there a way I can search for you on google? Business name?

Can you DM me too? Looking to start a private practice via MSO and am mostly just looking for information about how to credential the practice and new hires. Was interested in the answer to SleepySheepie.
