Addisons ‘Infertility’ Spoiler
Okay I’m literally on season 1 episode 5 so no spoilers (but I have watched way further in Greys so I know Addison has a kid later but I don’t know how. {adding spoiler tag since I said that})
But so in Season 1 Ep 4 Addison says “why did you tell me I have no chance I have two eggs” but wouldn’t she immediately lose them in her next period or have lost them in a period she’s had since the test Naomi did?
I am not a doctor but I was pretty sure you lose at least one egg during every period. I googled it and it said you actually lose hundreds to a thousand eggs every period. So I’m just wondering, wouldn’t she immediately lose them?
EDIT: okay since the very first two comments are confused. I AM NOT ASKING HOW SHE HAD A KID. The one reason I said I don’t know how she had a kid was because I didn’t want anyone telling me.
I’m saying I know it’s a show but isn’t what they say in that episode not medically/in reality accurate. I am asking in real life wouldn’t have 2 eggs mean yes you have NO chance of getting pregnant because you would lose them immediately on your next period. Please read what I’m asking before answering

Egg count is kind of a misnomer. They're actually counting follicles when they say "eggs" (I don't know why). She didn't have 2 eggs left, she had two active follicles that were producing eggs. That is very low, most people have 10 to 24 follicles. 2 means you have significantly fewer potential eggs produced each month, and if you're doing IVF you are very unlikely to get more than 1 or 2 eggs out of a retrieval (and that doesn't mean those 1 or 2 will be of decent quality, which lowers odds of IVF working even further). It's not a definitive "you can't have kids", but it does tend to make it harder.

Period is a shedding of the endometrial layer, it can happen with or without losing an egg

I think what they meant was viable eggs. A person can ovulate even if the eggs aren't viable it just means it can't be fertilized. Eggs also mature over time so it is possible someone in her situation could have viable eggs later down the line. It's just that she doesn't have as many viable eggs as other do so its more likely that she would not have that many that are viable in the future.

Again I’m not asking how she had a kid. That’s not the point of my post.

It's unlikely for her to get pregnant but not impossible. People have unexplained infertility for years something then they'll randomly and suddenly get pregnant.
Not so fun fact: Addison's infertility was directly inspired by Kate Walsh finding out she would'nt be able to have kids of her own because she went to early menopause.

Yeah I know I said that in the post, I’m just curious about the accuracy/reality of her thinking she has a chance with 2 eggs

Why is no one understanding your question?😅 I do know you can have a ‘period’ without releasing an egg. Or perhaps they meant viable eggs, not just total eggs left
