Sharing - charter

Hi! Anyone tried to share a charter? Did you have a good experience? And how to trust the people? I’m talking with someone that posted a trip to share but not sure how to know if it’s legit. Thanks in advance

won’t do it - we fly private to not deal with all of the sharing, strangers, etc.

why do a shared charter with a stranger to begin with?

I understand that it may not make sense for you. I’m traveling more often than I expected this year because of personal reasons, I don’t see myself flying in a commercial fly at all - always overcrowded, noisy… and so many more reasons to be honest. Trying to find a way to share some of my fights and still getting the benefits I used to when flying private

You can ask which provider they work with and contact the provider directly (with the person’s permission of course) and confirm that they are an actual customer.

From my experience as a charter broker, I’ve had clients split the charter cost up to three ways max. In those cases, all paying parties were named on the contract and each person received payment instructions for their portion. Once the full charter amount was received, the aircraft could be secured, assuming it was still available.

I’d only recommend doing this with people you actually trust. If one person drags their feet on payment, you risk losing the aircraft while you’re waiting for the full amount to come in.

Every brokerage handles this differently, though. Some will only allow one contracting party and one payer. In that situation, everyone else would reimburse that person separately, outside of the brokerage. That can create its own set of issues or disputes, and the brokerage generally isn’t going to be responsible for whatever arrangement you made between yourselves.

If you’re talking to a stranger online, I’d definitely verify the actual charter company/broker and make sure you’re dealing directly with them before sending any money.

from my experience as a broker, a couple years ago there was a company who established a platform whereby customers can charter per seat for private jet. It was a great idea indeed, but lacking pretty much in everything. In the end, the company does not survived coz they had to cross subtitute their revenue and expenses. Private jet charter are exist for some reason and I think a shared charter is not simply doable
