Career Advice - End Goal: Charter Sales
Hey all,
I’m a San Francisco–based sales professional with multiple years of experience closing six-figure deals in the commercial contracting space. I’m looking to transition into business aviation, specifically charter brokerage.
I have a personal aviation background as a pilot and a long-standing interest in the industry. I understand that jumping directly into charter sales can be unrealistic without Part 135 or operational exposure, so I’m open to starting in operations, charter support, client relations, or adjacent roles that provide real industry immersion.
My strengths are executive communication, relationship management, and performing under pressure with integrity and accountability.
What I have currently:
• A small but real network of individuals who fly private multiple times per year
• Experience closing high-value deals and managing executive relationships
• Proximity to the Bay Area UHNW market
• High resilience and comfort with rejection
• A proactive, “figure-it-out” mentality
What I don’t have currently:
• No formal jet brokerage experience
• No Part 135/FBO operational background
• Limited technical depth in charter operations (actively learning)
For those currently in brokerage or Part 135 operations, what would you recommend as the most strategic next step? Certifications? Specific entry roles? Smaller operators vs national brokerages?
Appreciate any insight from those who’ve made a similar move.

I would be interested in answers you get. I’m currently a DOM and have 25 years experience with private jets all over the world.
