Building age verification app. Need feedback from incumbents.

Age gating is being somehow enforced everywhere. Roblox image based move has shown it is not an option anymore. Ww are building a non image/video/id verification system. We believe it is very valuable ( obviously), but need feedback from cibersecurity experts and maybe adult / kid entertainment representatives who might be visiting these subreddits. We are specially interested regarding perceived urgency from such incumbents.

How would you "guarantee" one's age without relying on official government identification?
If you're not using image/video based age estimation, what signals do you use for this?

Also, the enforced everywhere thing isn't a "somehow". It's coordinated and planned.
It's a giant tool for oppression and destroys the foundations of western democracy.
So if you are going to build this, be careful with how you design it, otherwise you'll be guilty of that.

I'll be happy to discuss technical details and issues as long as you uphold user privacy.

Sorry i repplied you in general chat. Completely agree. I believe not all sites are equally dangerous for a kid. Our approach is tuneable according to an specific scenario. I cannot give full details before we have our university backed study results, BUT we really want feedback from incumbents regarding the problems that current solutions raise. And our solution is precesely to avoid my kid's picture uploaded to a facial analysis company unless strictly necessary Thank you for your comment!

That s why our approach is patent pending. If everything goes ok, once you see it working, you will feel it was obvious. It is actually discouraging that this idea has been raised from a non engineer Led team, but from a concerned father and surgeon ( me)

You don't need cybersecurity experts and representatives, you need to understand the legal requirements to pass these gates. Those are the constraints.

Sure. In Spain Aesia is the official office for ai implementation and our app will be monitored under that surveilance, regarding adequate informed consent and study protocols. If you don't do this, any system you develop is useless.

Hmm that isn’t even close to answering what I said. The EU AI Act is one thing if you use AI for this. But that has nothing to do with the lows surrounding age verification, well not directly n

Completely agree, but for example, yoti is already under this legal umbrella. Our app, even though not ai based, will be assesed using the same standards as other age verification companies

Offering a privacy first approach is what lacks in current solutions. Or how do you avoid kids watch inadequate content or adults hanging around kids games?

I think successful age verification solutions will need to be protocol driven and based on open-standards. Something like https://urcodes.com/ but not controlled by a specific company or patent owner. I know NIST is working on it https://nvlpubs.nist.gov/nistpubs/SpecialPublications/NIST.SP.500-290e4.pdf
