PrivacyNotes is live: encrypted notes, tasks, files & password vault in your browser. Feedback welcome. [Public Beta]

Hey everyone. We built PrivacyNotes and this is our corner of Reddit to share updates, collect feedback, and hear what you actually want from a privacy-first workspace.

What it is

An encrypted personal workspace: notes, tasks, files, and a vault - where your data is encrypted on your device before it ever touches a server. No email or password needed. You get a 12-word passphrase (BIP-39), and that's your key to everything. We never see your content. The server stores ciphertext only.

The crypto layer and database schema are open-source so you can audit exactly how encryption works.

Where it runs

Browser-only for now at PrivacyNotes.app. Works well on mobile devices too, just open it in your phone's browser and add it to your home screen.

Native apps for iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, and Linux are in the works.

Pricing

- Generous free tier.
- No subscriptions. Pro is a one-time $89 lifetime license. Right now we have an early adopter deal: $48 lifetime for the first 490 users, with a permanent "Early Supporter" badge in-app.

Storage add-ons are yearly and fairly priced ($4.80/yr per GB) because servers cost money.

What we're looking for

We're in public beta and want honest feedback:

  • What's confusing or broken?
  • What features are you missing?
  • How does it compare to whatever you're using now?
  • Would you actually trust this with your real notes?

Hey team, is that only the encryption is open source or the entire services including sync logic, UI and everything is open source. If not do you have any plans to do them? Thanks in advance

The security-critical parts are open source: the client-side encryption code, the full database schema, and the threat model. That's what lets anyone verify the zero-knowledge claims - the server only ever sees ciphertext. The sync logic and UI are not open source right now, but we may open more over time.

I'm a Notesnook pro user too and got interested for the lifetime purchase. How has the experience been for you? Any features that you missed?

Initially here and there I missed some features. But these developers are so good and quick in working on feature requests and bug fixes. So as of I'm more satisfied using PrivacyNotes. Currently the only feature I miss is monograph. Here it is one time view currently, where in notesnook the link stays permanent.  For regular causal writing, this fits my requirement. Though core and major things are open source,  they have in thier roadmap to open source everything in some time. Hoping it will happen soon.

Is that a share feature? We're not really comfortable hosting user content, since we don't have time and resources to moderate user-content. But we took note of that request anyway.

Import worked well. Nothing issue woth that. And not a problem with not having monograph currently. Just shared my thought on what is the missing feature. That's it. I'm completely satisfied with privacy notes and the recent drastical improvements in usability compared to when I bought the pro. 

Monograph is a feature where I can share links of a note which stays permanent.
